8500rpm??

XP 800 runs strong at 8500(off the analog tach) and clicker 4 except for the occasional bounce off of the limiter. Am I asking for premature engine failure running this high or is it ok? I have DJ's clutch kit and the sled seems to be much snappier on clicker 4 than on 3. Didnt seems to hold rpms as well either, but I was also using a new 377, so that might have had something to do with the rpm fluctuation?

i would have the dealer ck the tach and see how far off it is--this will give you a idea where you are--we run our 08 at 8200-8300 on the digital tach:eek::beer;

Ive got the everest, so no digital tach for me. Anyways, could it be the clicker setting and not the rpms the reason for the perceived performance gain? If so, would it be best to run at clicker 4 and adjust pin weight to achieve 8200 on the analog tach?

Well I have been running my 05 Summit 800 with the RKT drop in kit @8500 for the last three seasons without a problem. Thought I had heard once that the cranks are balanced to 10000rpm.

Well, I have ran mine everywhere from 7900 to 8600. I like to turn mine 8300 to 8400. The crank is ONLY in balance at one point, remember that. Reciprocating mass of pistons can only be balanced by rotating mass at a single point in the rpm scale. As long as the motor retains the rev limiter, it should be fine. If the engineering is done correctly, the motor should be fine to live on the limiter...if it breaks it would have broke at lower rpms too. JMO

If you have rpm fluctuation with my kit, then contact me, that's what Im here for.

I ask questions, you answer from observations and can troubleshoot a concern.

The 377 belt will reveal up to 300 rpms low for the first 30 miles until you burn off the release agent (sticky stuff) and the belt surface starts to cure and harden up, thus bringing rpms back up again.

I mention right off the bat with the 08xp kit that with the use of the 413 ramp, IF you have to run distances on the road/trail, THEN to run down on clicker 2 to get good mileage and lower rpms and top end mph. Then when into the snow back up to clicker 4 and don't look back for the rest of the day.
...that being said you want to "focus" on having correct calibration for where you use the sled in the snow and when on the road either take it easy on the throttle or take a moment to clicker down before you travel. (while using the 413/414/415 ramps) My new ramps you won't have to clicker anymore.

The clickering around on an 07 and 08 is the reason that last march I started to work on my own primary clutch ramps to which you are a candidate for and can get on my mailing list if you like.
dynamo-joe@shaw.ca and you will automatically get on the mail list for my DJ1 ramps.

THANKS
