850 bad luck in chic-choc

We went to ride in chic-choc mountains in Gaspe and we met this unfortunate fella.

Bended/cracked tunnel and cracked radiator, had to be towed. His 850 was still in break-in, first real ride with it...1h in the day.

He got stuck almost straight and pushed the sled backward and bending the tunnel at the same time.

Nothing against the 850 or poo its just user error. I just find this interesting. 20181220_111140.jpeg20181220_111230.jpeg

Wow one would think there is more to a story then just pushing the sled over to cause this kind of damage but we'll never know.

I didn't saw it happened but there was ZERO mark anywhere on that sled read end.

Lol. No way that was a "JRA". These tunnels haven't changed in a long time. Are they the strongest? No. But that isn't a "I pushed it backwards and it bent" kind of thing*

*unless the rider is in fact the incredible hulk

There is more to this story because I've flipped axys and pros over backwards, a bunch, to get them unstuck and not a scratch.

Just a thought but hard snow or log not allowing tunnel to move as weight of sled flips over backwards

We call our snow cascade concrete (typically wet heavy snow) and we've lost a few tunnels being lazy and pushing the sled over backwards

Good reason to have a Cat. No tunnel coolers to crack....
front cooler are a thousand time more exposed, if he wasn't warrantied an aluminum welder would have put it back on the snow in the afternoon. He wanted to try the warranty first..... good luck with that!

Everybody is ignoring the obvious question: What length is that sled? I had a 163 and it was over backwards more times than I can count. Now I have a 174. Will it bend easier?

I would say it depends on the snow. Powder maybe not, spring snow better chance of it bending. That's a lot of tunnel hanging back there with no real support.

It could also be that as this sled was coming back down after the "push backward", the bumper may have caught on something and with all that weight up in the air, the tunnel bent. Just a guess...

Time to call B&M Fab, Rogue Concepts or who ever you favor for a better bumper.

snow looks great tho.. been contemplating a trip to gaspe!!
It was in the trees, outside, not much snow cover and very hardpack from winds. it's pouring rain today, I don't know how it will affect the mountains yet. Inform yourself carefully before planning to go. All Quebec will suffer from today's rain. It sucks we had an early season and now 3weeks without any snow and this rain messing everything.

I have photos of my trip to show the snow more.

Ditto in New Brunswick.

Yeah, we are 50km's south of Gaspe. Been riding since early November and it's pouring rain here today.... like 40mm's +++. Won't be any sledding until we get a real storm event and it will be down on bulletproof boilerplate snow!!! Great combo!!!

Sucks that your buddy bent that bad. I've seen kinking of a tunnel, but not a bend like that!!!

Good news is he has at least 2 weeks to repair with no loss of riding...lol

Cheers
