800HO & 800R Cylinder head, Are they interchangeable?

Hello I would like to know if the 800HO and the 800R cylinder heads are interchangeable, mostly can you put an R head on an HO engine?

What are the differences in them if they are or aren`t interchangeable??

Thanks, Wildcard

I have a PSI head off the 800 or 800ho and I have the head mocked up on a monoblock R cylinder. Bolted right up.

reason I was askin is I have seen more aftermarket removeable dome heads for the 800r engine lately than the 800ho and was curious whether the R head would actually work on the HO engine and if the R has more sensor spots or not or anything more special about an R head over the HO.

buy this evening I purchased a core 800HO head that I will most likely send off to be machined for removeable domes, only thing that confuses me is my engine has an SHR trail torquer ported kit in it that runs a .020 thicker base gasket and the head my stock head has been shaved .020 also.

So I beleive I would have to have custom domes machined to match up with my shaved head cause most domes you see out there to purchase seem to be for a stock basegasket engine or around that area. If I was to buy a set of domes for my compression ratio and had the head machined to fit them would probably have to have the domes machined the .020 also but that would most likely change the design shape of the chamber and bump the compression up to high.

What do you all think, I`m goin to call Big John the next day or two and see what he recommends just curious what you all think also

Thanks, Wildcard

yes..the domes are the same...just a possible squish step difference and YOU need to verify before blindly installing...as for your engine...you would need specific domes (squish step) for your set up...BJ
