800 xp clutchs

both clutches require tools so get them and have a friend show you how--they are fairly simple when you watch it done

removing clutch

Like he said you'll need a clutch puller for the primary so you can remove the clutch and seperate the two pieces. the seconary doesnt require any puller or special tools. The only special tool required is a snap ring plier. If you have someone else around when its time to assemble the clutch have someone help you compress the clutch to start the four torq screws on the back side. I just got done doing both of my clutchs and they were piece of cake.

what did you need the snap ring pliers for?
you can actually change your secondary helix without a special tool if you have a heavy weight friend to use his weight to compress the spring. what i found easiest is to remove the clutch and jackshaft from the sled (very easy) then remove the torx bolts one at a time and install hex head bolts then put the clutch on the ground with jackshaft facing up and have a friend put his weight on jackshaft and will compress spring so you can remove helix. sounds oaky but it saves you $80 for a tool you will use once.

Hello
Is it possible to remove the torx bolts without removing the drive shaft?
My sled is in the trailer at storage, so don't have it here to look at.

You may be able to remove them with the clutch still on the sled, but it would be an interesting job!!
With the clutch on the sled, removing the hex bolts (replaced the torx bolts with) is a little tight, found using a rachet wrench was the easiest.

we doo ours that way all the time--have a little ratchet the torex bit fits into and break them loose and install the tool to take the helix out--10 min. job

For the primary, get a "clutch puller tool"...............unscrew the center screw on the primary, and screw the clutch puller. Than with a hammer hit the head of the clutch puller and off comes the clutch.

The primary srew will require torqued correctly when re-installed 68# to 70# should do the trick.

To open the clutch for cleaning or inspectiction you neeed 3 clutch keys, which fit between the buttons. Once removed carefully remove the keys or the button will want to fall out because the buttons are under pressure by springs

OT.

Hitting the puller/crank-????

The primary clutching can be changed without pulling it. As far as if you are going to pull the primary, I wouldn't be hitting the puller, transfering that energy into the crank has been done thru the years, but not recommended by Ski-Doo. I believe it would be best to use just small amount of heat on the slider shaft between the 2 sheave faces while the puller has pressure applied, so it slips right off. All you need to use is a propane torch like if you soldering plumbing.

08 clutches ... Buy SD pullers and holding tools.......... get yellow teflon tape, (gas tape), rap puller threds with same. Pull clutch bolt.... tilt sled on side and pour water in the end of the clutch where bolt was removed..........screw in puller with tape. Hold clutch while tighting clutch puller. Will pop off like butter. Don't tighten to 70 psi next time...60 is fine. Make sure clutch and crankshaft end are clean.. scotchbrite cloth before re-assembly.

If this is too much trouble heat it and pound on it like some do.... I don't.

FYI Skidoo's parts & accessories book sells the primary clutch puller that requirers the use of a hammer the BRP part # is 529022400 and happens to be the only primary clutch puller BRP sells.
