800 wouldn't start today. Then low idle.

Just got a '12 Pro 800. Only has 40 mi on it, rode it once so far.
Went to start it today in the shop. Hasn't been started in a week.
It wasn't getting fuel. Would just fire once or twice every pull. Finally cracked the throttle while I pulled it over. Fired right up but idled at about 1500 rpms. Seemed rough when I cracked the throttle. Started it a couple more times same low idle. Let er sit for a few hrs. Then it fired first pull and idled about 2200 rpms like it should.
Side note. It bogged real bad for a couple min on the last ride then went away and ran fine the rest of the day.
Goes into reverse fine even when it was idling too slow.
What's the issue? TPS already or just a fluke?
Ran like a champ most of the day I rode it.
Got fresh no E 91 gas w a little oil in it since the orig owner only put 18 mi on it and was on empty. Turned oiler up when I bought it too.

Damaged reeds will cause the same symptoms, but at 40 miles, I doubt that is the issue.

pull 1 spark plug at a time, then start....the pro will idle on 1 plug at about 1400rs..do this to isolate the bad plug or plug cap...

try new plugs and grease the connections, if you see a ton of black carbon on your plug tips..thats a poor connection.

with both working, you should see 1850ish..

Problem is it was intermitent. Fired it up again yesterday after installing a tether switch and it lit up first pull 19-2100rpm idle......
If it contiues to happen I will post up the result/solution. Need some new snow now!!

2000 rpm at idle seems high. My 12 idles at 15-16 normally. Have your dealer check your throttle position sensor for the correct voltage. Idle is one of issues with incorrect voltage.

throttle cable ices at t.p.s.

have you checked your gauge cluster diagnostics? throttle stuck code (520194- 7).warm deep days water can run from your throttle flap down to the t.p.s. and cause problems. pull secondary off and bend guard up that is in front of the t.p.s. then disconnect t.p.s. plug and apply a little dielectric grease on plug end and apply liberally on back ok of plug (where wires go in). this keeps the moisture out and helps keep t.p.s. from going out

I will do that. Actually all the connections I can find. I usually do that to all my sleds when I get them, just haven't yet.
The sled hasn't ever been in a good powder situation yet and was dried out in the shop for almost 2 weeks when that happened. Now seems to be a non issue, working fine.
Sled didn't come with an owners manual. How do you check codes and is there a master list?

Once you shut it off codes go to history, need digital wrench to bring them up. If your engine light comes on ,stop the sled pull in on brake lever and hit select button and the code should come up, if you keep pushing the select button it will show all codes .

I wouldn't push the panic button yet....mine needed a little throttle to start a couple times during break in. Hasn't really since unless it's really cold and I left it outside.

Also sometimes the idle is a bit low when the first fire....give it a little throttle and it should come up and stay there. Mine gradually increases up to 17-1900 ish as it warms up.

Sounds good Jay. Thanks for the help.
I wasn't going to tear into it just yet. He!! I've only ridden it once!
Just seemed odd as I don't recall ever having to crack the throttle on either of the efi Cats.
It definately isn't even broke in yet. Had 18mi on it when I picked it up and an empty tank of gas, so the PO never even really ran it. 1.5hrs on the engine and max speed of 60mph which I'm confident was one ripdown the road in front of his house judging by the rock chips on the front skid spring already.

My '12 Assault just did this too. Started second pull in the garage to load up, then when we go to unload, could pull your guts out and no-go. Give the throttle a crack and it would fire, but idle so low that the gauge would go blank, and then quit.
After it sputtered and hiccupped a while it cleared itself out and ran like a champ. Only did the "cutout" thing twice on me, but driving right by the dealer in a few weeks (he's a few hours away) so will drop it off and they can have a peek.

If you have oil in the gas tank and you turned up your oiler you probably are fouling your plugs. Put new plugs in and quit using so much oil.

That's what I thought, but plugs aren't fouled and now it starts and idles fine, same plugs.
Also just calced oil usage, turned up, and I'm still a bit over 40:1 coming out of the oil tank and added 1oz/gal to the tank putting me just under 40:1 overall usage, with about 50/50 mix of whatever was in the tank (VES gold?) and Interceptor.
That stuff doesn't foul plugs very easily. Been running less than 40:1 for years on sleds with no fouling.
It's gotta jsut be a elect glitch like said above.
