800 vs. 1000

I'm currently looking at two sleds an 07 800r 144 adrenaline with 1700 miles and a fresh top end and an 07 1000 151 with around 1500 miles. Both prices seem right to me. I'm just wondering which sled would be better for me. I'm 5'11" 150 and we do all kinds of riding mainly at the snowys. Probably 50% climing 50% tree riding. Which is the sled for me?

I personally would go with the 800. Make sure to see if the recall work has been done on it (crank etc.). No doubt the 1000's go like hell (straight up the hill), but you'll be much happier with an 800 in the trees, boondocking, sidehilling, etc.

I have not posted on here in years but I had to respond to this one. I have owned two 800 Revs, an 04 and an 07 and also a 05 1000, all Summit X's. I really liked the 04 159 Summit but wanted more power. I went with the 05 1000RT Summit 162 and struggled with it for two seasons. It had good power but it was way too heavy to throw around in the trees. I am 5'11" and 210 lbs. When I got the 07 800R Summit 151, it put the fun back into boondocking. That said, the crank snapped in two after 2700 miles. I still have the 07 but it now has a Trygstad 872.

JIMO, your looking at 2 turds. That being said if the motor was checked out and the run out is good then go with the 07 800. Now if the previous owner did all that needs to be done to the 1000 to make it a good sled then go with it. But stock for stock with nothing being checked out or done to either one, I would go another direction if I was you. Yes I ride skidoo, but you picked 2 of the worst repped sleds on the skidoo used sled market to compare, again in my opinion. The 07's were prone to having crank failures, and the 1000's just had problems.

I have a 800 rev and love it. We had a 1000 in our group for a while and he was never impressed with the sled and ended up selling the 1000 and buying a 800 rev. Go for the 800!

I had a 2007 Summit 800 X with the 159" track and a 2005 Summit 1000 with 162" track. Loved the 800 hated the 1000. Extra power was nice, but in the end it was heavier and bulkier to throw around. I would never buy a 1000 again. I had nothing but troubles with it!!

I ride a 05 RT 162 and yes it is a bit heavier and yes they did have their issues but after correcting the issues and doing some mods I went from dissapointed to pretty happy with it. Granted I weigh 250 so I'm able to make it do what I want. Lets be honest what sled doesn't have it's issues or needed mods.

Some of the sleds out there are nice with modds on them but lets be honest not all of them need the modds to make them run right.:face-icon-small-ton

what mods did you make?

go for the 800. a 151 is too short for the 1000 to be fun. that being said I have an 05 800 summit w/144 and an 05 1000 summit w/162. the 1000 needs to have several things changed/modded to make it anywhere near reliable....

800 is much more maneuverable and all purpose sled. my 1000 is modded and is a blast going uphill in deep snow, the extra power is very noticeable. but it is a bitch and a half to sidehill in low powder conditions.

in the end I ride my stock 800 more with less effort. and for reference i'm 6'1 and 200+, and if i ride hard for an entire day on the 1000, im beat. youll have more fun on the 800

my 2 cents

Hello I have an 04 Summit Rev X 800 and love it and to me and others they are still difficult to some to learn how the chassis works and finding the sweet spots been having my share of trouble but think I have it set up a ton better for this season. I have never riden an R/T 1000 but for guys our weight bracket which you mentioned is the same I weigh , 155 normally clothed and I figure about 165 or so with my gear and backpack on, I would Never buy a Wide, Heavy, Tank, 1000 about 90% of any threads I have read than are asking the same you are, the word of advice was 800 only just do checkin on the updates for that year on the engine and crank if that has been done or you end up doing it the chassis in 06 and 07 are the best Handling Rev made.. Just my 02 but you will have the 1000 R/T it is a complete different animal compared to the 800 or smaller engine revs, Chassis is actually different just to get the big 1000 in it and are wider on the body, strange sled, they look cool and have alot of power but to me are only a straight line power hill climber not a good boondocking sled.

No offence to anyone but most who like the R/T are just awesome or very experieced rider on that chassis or are the types who can just about ride anything impressively, and are guys who are bigger or heavier dudes who have muscle and weight to thro it around.

Good Luck, Wildcard
