800 or 900?

I have a 06 900 I bought used in 07 with 350 miles on it. I joined Sno-West forums about the same time. I have tried to read up on as many 900 posts as I can. I was concerned about the crank, but it seems to be more electrical problems then anything else. I now read lots of posts about 800,s loosing pistons. Seems like lots of them are scorching pistons, So many that Polaris can't keep up with the demand for replacement parts. So I guesse my question is how did Polaris save themselves from the so called lemon 900 by building something that can"t keep pistons in it? This is my third season on my 900 with absolutly no problems at all. Ok 800 owners let me have it.

I don't want to jinx myself, but there are several people who have not had issues with their D8. Seems like most (if not all) of them were below 5K and snow checked sleds. Hopefully Polaris fixed the voltage regulator on post snow checked sleds.

Don't forget that these 4M's amplify the problems and there are a ton of posts by Polaris haters as well.

i have always heard goood things about the polaris 700 motor of the last 3 years.........except it dont have the power in the deep snow.......
ihave 3 skidoos and between 2003-2008 and the xp and zx have both popped ........replaced th em with new short blocks they are 800 s /
the arctic cat 800 has the least amount of horsepower of all the 800 s (10plus less) but they seem to be the dependable one out there ...course poo 700 has same horse as acrctic 800

Well Cat will be the runner this year then. At 160 HP, The new M8 will have 6 more HP than the 800 Dragon and 9 more HP than the XP. But I guess we'll see how the new lightweight crank holds up!

I had a 05 900 at the begining of the season 350 miles on it i installed slp torque arm and push arm, some venting, and had the clutch balanced, i sold it to a friend we have been riding together all winter with no problems at all with the rmk not even a belt, it seem like at about -20 or more guages take a while to warm up heck the whole sled takes a while. Anyways i now have a new this year 08 m8 with a few mods i love this sled it handles so much better and is a lot lighter, i can take him in a drag race, climbing pretty much any situation it just seems i get there quicker, the 900 has more grunt but thats it, it could be that he has 50lbs on me and the sled probably has 100lbs, when i was riding it i would say it was a bit faster. All in all its a strong runner and has no problems and i would say my m8 vibarates worse, its the perfect sled for him at 270lbs i don't think he would be as comfortable on the m8 but a m1000 would be right up his alley.

I'm not brand loyal in anyway, and my 900 is my first Polaris. It replaced a Arctic Cat, and I had Yamaha's before that. But I sure like this Polaris. I probably won't be able to replace it for quite some time, but I would like to stay with Polaris in the future. The problem is after reading all the posts on D8,s scorching the top ends, I don't think I would go out on a limb to buy one. Some of them have had thier sleds in the shop for the third time with 150 miles on them. That's just pathetic!!! I hope they fix these problems before I purchase another Polaris, because I do like thier sleds, but I don't like it when the factory knows they have a problem but send it out to the public anyway, such as Doo did with the belt alignment issues on there 800,s.
