800 OEM rebuild/ or the "fix"

My 2008 800 Dragon always ran well, still does. 2010 Polaris recall changed pistons, cylinder, and head. Were these OEM parts similar to the "fix" that I've read about on these threads? What are the differences? Who markets the "fix"?
Also, at what mileage are these engines expected to be rebuilt? Thanks for any input.

fix

The upgrade cylinder, pistons and head from Polaris was a detune of the engine to improve durability. Didn't help much. The Fix kit uses a taller piston and a spacer that goes under the cylinder to remedy the stresses on the bottom of the cylinder and reduce piston skirt scuffing. I just put RTK's kit on my 09 and it only had 500 miles on the Update from Polaris. Skirts were already starting to scuff. I would do yours right away even though it still runs well. Mine did too. If you loose the bottom of the cylinder; it often knocks a hole in the bottom of the case. Then things get real expensive. The kit isn't much more than OEM pistons and is good insurance against more expensive repairs. It can be installed with the motor still in the sled.

Indy Specialty

You may also want to check out Dan's Indy Specialty cylinder/ piston fix kit. He beefs up the skirts and gives a three year warranty on the skirts. He also builds a great long rod motor for these sleds. He sells on ebay, but you can search for him on here as indydan. Just another option for ya.

I put in RKTEK's piston's and head on my 2010 assault, cant remember the miles I did it at sorry... around 1k? The O.E. pistons I took out looked like little baby keg's..
RKTEK holding up well so far, aprox 700? mountain miles... I see Kelsey added the cfi-4 to his drop in kit list with notes about needing fuel map changes.. Mine runs very well with stock exhaust, no mods, or fuel controller.. I have not run it with EGT's to confirm it "IS" happy other than checking spark plugs, they look good, so talk to Kelsey @ RKTEK first before buying.
