800 Liberty Engine Top End Opinion

Crew,
To make a long story shot I purchased the 2011 800 Pro as a prototype and have since gone through two shortblocks. One at 1100 miles and the next at 4200 miles as far as mileage on the sled rather than the engine. I'm now on my third 800 liberty shortblock and would like to avoid the expensive rebuild which comes with a wasted bottom end due to a seemingly faulty top end. Does anyone have recommendations as far as an aftermarket top end goes before I bury another bottom end on the mountain? I'm looking at BMP and RK at this moment but would love any words of wisdom.

Best Regards,

Marshall

Have your cases bored (if they are 2011's) to fit the 2013 cylinders (3022449) in them as tight as possible. Only concern is the injectors, I know 12+ injectors will fit in 11 cases with the correct orings, but not sure about 11's in 13's. I'm sure someone will know. I have a complete rebuild sitting here with 2012 cases and 2013+ cylinders I maybe possibly selling. The tight clearances will give the cylinder skirts more support. If you do a fixitkit make sure its one that has year specific plates, not a once size fit all plate. The year specific will fit the skirt tighter.

if you have spent the money on two shortblocks and wasted both of them, this is my advice.

Call Indy Specialties. Send him both blown motors-- even if cases are blown out or cranks are broken. If you only need one motor, one will be your core and one can probably be used as "build credit" towards the new engine.

The new engine will HAVE A WARRANTY backed by Indy Specialties.

Dan has a number of build options for you and all can be bulletproof. My personal favorite is the TMX LR motor with an Axys lightweight crank. I just put a short rod TMX bottom end with Axys crank in a sled for a customer.

If you don't want to go to that level of cost performance, Indy Specialties also sells cylinders with beefed up skirts and matched pistons that he guarantees for three years against skirt breakage. The cost of that kit is around $1000 which includes cylinders and pistons.

Have you installed a remote Ski Doo thermostat (TRS mod on the forum) to help eliminate cold shock and to reduce engine temps?

There is no doubt that 2011-12 motors are not as robust as later years-- with diligent warm up and not allowing the sled to overheat, they can live in excess of 4,000 miles (couple of my personal sleds did that) if not longer.

I second this.
