How many of you 800 dragon guys have geared them down and how far did you go. I was wondering also how well it helped in boondocking and climbing or if its kind of a waste since they are already 2.15.

One tooth on each. Gives it more bottom and mid feel but I also didn't notice any hinderence in climbing. Out pulled and climbed buddies 08 800 but that's not much of a reference i guess. Just make it feel more responsive to me with the low and midrange so for what it's worth I'd do it. I ride Baker mostly so not a bunch of monster pulls, lots of boondocking though.

I went from 20/41 stock on my 08 163 to 19/42..much more snappier and the belts ran cooler..biggest help was better clutching....

This discussion came up a couple weeks ago. The 09 D8 is 19/42 stock. Apparently the 08 D8 was 20/41. I like the 19/42 that I currently have. Seems to be good take off w/o sacrificing too much on the top.

I am also running 19/42 on my D7 and it helped quite a bit. You will lose about 6mph on your top end (no big deal) going from 20/41 to 19/42. 19/42 is the most you can change without having to drop a different chain in.

You are riding in Washington which has the infamous Cascade Crud..or on a good day heavy powder. This sled needs this to help in the heavy snow to keep the belts cooler. I checked the belt and clutch on the stock set up last year after some good snowfall at Baker and they were cookin. I looked around and my riding partner was nowhere to be found...Hmmm I went up around a bend and ther he was changing his belt. I have complete vents all over the place he does not. Stock gearing on both. This was after only about 30min of hitting it hard..unacceptable IMHO. This sled is crying for vents and some lower gearing! You wont go wrong.

Thanks guys I will probably be gearing it down, I do have some belt heat when making long consecutive pulls. I am not even positive what it has in it for gearing, the paperwork that came with it when I bought it says 19/41. I will pull it apart and see for sure, hopefully it has enough dogleg in the chain to add a tooth to the bottom.

Changed my 08 D8 to 19/42...works great...I lost a couple miles an hour on the top end but then I went 2 grams heavier on my primary clutch weights and got most of the miles per hour back. Was not my goal when I tried it but that was the way it worked.
