What is the straight dope on re purposing a fuel filter for these sleds, I have read posts where you have to modify the filter, add hose, add fittings and the such.
Is there a direct install filter that does not cost 86.00 USD??
The hose on the 900's is too short for the current 800's. I've been trying to source out some place to make injector line with fittings so we can just get a couple of lengths and then use an automotive filter.
I picked up a kit with some nylon fuel injector line and fittings from napa. I'm not completely sold on going that route yet. I do like the idea of a larger filter though. Another issue I found with the current setup is the angle the filter hose was bending was causing a crease in the line. could have been slightly restricting fuel. That area also felt very pliable compared to the rest of the line as though it was breaking down. I showed it to a service manager and he thought it could be a concern as well.
I'm pretty resourcefull and I've been unable to find one for the CFi sleds other than the 900 which will only fit the 900 (shorter hose, different fitting)
Monte... we should get together on this one... I think I have a supplier of hoses that can make a Female/Female to fit the fuel tank fitting and a Ford Focus filter which is larger.
When you are dealing with 58psi gasoline.. this isn't something you want to be jury-rigged!!
This would allow you to use an inexpensive filter and NOT have to modify the sled at all to run it.
I have considered cutting the lines and simply using the durable style crimp clamps, this could be done utilizing a good quality machined filter that has a replaceable element..
Have a look at this... I use this type of setup on my sons race cars..
somebody does need to put a better filter in when sled was sitting apart for awhile i thought i cleaned everything out pretty good but i guess not, but i had an injector fail on me it was stuck open dumping fuel into my engine. just kind of an example of how tempermental these injectors are
I used a NAPA 3300 fuel filter with the stock 90 degree end from my 07 700. I gently cut off the factory crimp by the 90 degree end. I used a top quality rubber fuel line and used two crimp style clamps on each end. This is a larger filter than the factory one but works fine in a turboed application where the airbox is not used. The rubber fuel line slipped snugly over the inlet end of that filter. I have run it about 400 miles with no problems. Fastenal can get every size of crimp clamps.
awesome, thanks for the info. I have been looking for an automotive replacement filter. I had same plan as you, recrimp factory quick connects on new hose.
