8"or9" idler wheels

Swapping over to a set of 163" Ice Age rails and was wondering if there is much of a performance difference between the two sizes. Local dealer has 9" rails in stock but would have to order in the 8". Any downside to going for the 9"?

Shortens the footprint of the track on the snow and makes the front a little more wheelie prone under power. I haven't ridden one so I don't know how much difference it is.

Are we talking about the rear wheels? If we are it's ony 1/2" more from CL, and really how much does that equate to less track on ground? Also you have offset axles for the 9". Not sure how they would make yu wheelie more.

8in

I went with 8in on my 153 rails. 9in wheels could hit the top of the tunnel under full-stuff when landing jumps. Also the 9in wheels will cause the track to lift off the top carrier wheels when compressed.

I would have him order the 8in ones, still plenty of time till snow.

Sorry, should have been clearer in my original post. I am trying to decide if I should order rails from Ice Age cut for an 8" wheel or a 9" wheel. In the end, the rail will be the right one for the wheel, so no offset axles. Still, not hearing much to favour going for the 9".

I'd go with the 8" wheels... Though there are many that use the 9" wheels and love them, on the IQ/PRO... when you use 9" wheels (stock is 7.25)... you will have the track go slack at the end of the rear skid travel because of the taller wheel... It lifts the track off the top idler in the tunnel...

Sorry to get off subject but has anyone ran 8" wheels on stock rails without the offset axle? If so how did it work?

Think of this every time the wheel size issue comes up. The sled wheels are just like car wheels bigger just looks better. Ten years ago it Had performance gains since you were switching from a 5 inch wheel, these days the stock runs around 7 inches. Anything bigger is just show that's why I have tens!
