8" or 9" Big wheels on 06-900

Ok- It's getting that time.
I am thinking of putting the 8 or 9" billet wheels on the inside -and need advice.
Should I try to find the ones with rubber or not?
I have heard the rubber on top of the billet is better but what do you guys recommend? :beer;:D:beer;

To run them on the stock rails... you will need an offset axle kit or new rails...

I HIGHLY recommend the rubber ones..

Also, on the IQ-RMK's... dont run larger than 8"... larger than that and the track will lift off the upper idlers on full track compression... tall lug tracks can also rub on the coolers.

Some will say they run 9 or 10" with no problems....Not on the sleds that Ive seen.

MH, I run 8s on my stock rails as there is only 3/8" difference from center vs. the stock wheels. Plus, there is so much tip up in the 166 rails that the rear doesn't touch the ground...figure when I order the straight Iceage rails, I'll get the ones built for big wheels

Is one brand better than another.
I see by looking at the sites- some have the rubber-some do not.
I also agree with MH- I think rubber would ride better and not ice up as bad,

A lot also has to do with the machining process itself.

I read a TON about this before I decided on a set for my sled, and you really get what you pay for. If they do a "quick" job in the machining process, you run the chance for the wheels to have small grooves or machining lines in their finish, perfect place to build up ice and get the stick happening.

After looking into some of the brands and asking the manufacturer how they design and manufacture the wheels, I decided to go with the MMP wheels because they had some fo the best attention to detail on theirs, and also have a lifetime warranty on them.

I also went with the offset axle on mine from MMP, heavy duty unit for sure.

^^i also went with MMP wheels and freedom axle..great products and will always take the time to talk on the phone..

i bought a set of Mountain Addiction 8" billet wheels for the wifes sled and they are also excellent to deal with...Leslie is AWESOME...

twisted toys makes some killer ones too, but a little steep in price, but look awesome..

i have 9" on my 166 and never an issue..but thats just been my expierence.. ;)

Rubber seems like a gimmick as a good wheel is machined with a radius to prevent wear and ice buildup. Besides rubber would be a two piece wheel with extra machining,,,and rubber wears.. gets brittle etc.
Have MMP's 9's with thousands of miles on them..any questions just ask!!!!

What size tracks do you guys run the nine inch wheels on? I just ordered my freedom axle and wheels from MMP and they said I could only run 8" wheels, is this correct? I would assume they would know?

I run the 9" with the freedom axle on my 166...my wife runs 8" with the freedom axle on her 159"

you MIGHT clear the 9" and never have issues, but like MH has stated in the past some dont have issues, some do..best not to test it and be safe with 8"...

guido- I do not see rubber on the MMP's- is that correct?
Would you recommend these?

Looks like I'm leaning tothe 9"'s.

I have the 166 track- so what I need is the freedom axle and 2 9" wheels.

With the 9's in there- is there enough adjustment for tension-or is it tight?

I am not sure if MMP has wheels with the rubber...i have never used them before..they do have added benefits to them, but are slightly more $$ i believe..

With a 166", as long as your rear suspension is not sagged out, you will be fine with the 9"...

You do not have to spend the money on the freedom axle..you can just buy the offset axle thats like $80-$100..instead of $165..the freedom axle just allows you the option to run 2/3/4 rear wheels..i bought mine and the wifes used for $100 each..otherwise i would have gone with a standard offset axle...IMO..

Here are some Billet 5 spoke billet MMP wheels, same as i have in the swapmeet..check them out..very good deal..

I have the MMP 9" Billet Aluminum wheels on my sled and couldn't be happier. Never Iced up on me, and work awesome with the Freedom Axle. Got mine at a stealin price and love them! Get ahold of the crew at MMP! They will set you up!
