7s Questions.

Can't edit my posts but there is a lot of "out of bounds" stuff where I ride, and I can't see any of it on the 7s. So importing the actual pdf map as an overlay would be nice if thats possible.

Got it thanks.

Imported/exported gpx files no problem.. cool!

I notice the out of bounds stuff does show on the phone app and on the ride command website but not on the 7S. I'll try updating it / maps.

  • If you haven't updated with the previous software (since March 2023), be sure to install this update to also get Group Ride hand controls, hybrid Group Ride messaging, public and private land areas, and more.
Probably that.. i'll update it thanks

Hmm it was already up to date, software.. i updated the maps and poi.. I guess the "land info" needs internet connection, thats annoying. Can't see stuff like this.

None of this shows up on the 7s.

Anyway to download that info for my area onto it?

download the Polaris app on your phone. Make sure your 7S is logged into your ride command account. Whatever tracks you save to your account on your computer will sync to the app on your phone. Then the next time your phone Bluetooths to the 7S gauge and syncs your ride command account it will load all your tracks. Literally don't have to push a button and no USB stick required.

The 7SDD has two GPX file types that could helps with this.

1. Ride Command calls them areas, GPX standards call it geofence.
It takes a 2 dimensional form, that does not cross over itself, and uses Latitude and Longitude pairs to define that geofence. Polaris limits these areas to having no more than 24 pairs / corners. It shades the inside of this area, when presenting them on the screen.

2. Ride Command calls these Routes / planned rides, GPX standards call them tracks.
There is no practical limit to how many Latitude and Longitude pairs / corners these may have, but all pairs are connected by a track line, in the same order that the pairs are in the file. The first and last locations can touch, or just be a big crooked line that can cross itself.

When creating or editing, I would suggest turning off in the Layers or Tools option of Ride Command, Trail Conditions, Heatmap and Snow Depth, and unless you need it, turn off Satellite and Landowner Info also. It will make the screen less busy and improve response time, as you move around. I use a distinctive color, such as yellow so they will not be confused with trails or recorded rides, or the current ride.

Ride Command can create/edit Areas and Planned Rides/routes with a Web Browser running on a PC, or by a Smartphone using the Ride Command app with an internet connection. It is MUCH easier to do it on a PC, then on a Smartphone. If creating a route, turn off the option for Snapping to a trail, unless the trail IS on the boundary that you want.

The 7SDD can either be synchronized thru internet access after logging in to the Ride Command cloud, and downloal or all, or selected areas or routes. The Areas and/or Planned Routes can be placed onto USB flash drive, via a PC. A USB flash drive can also import export from the Ride Command cloud thru a Smartphone using a Web Browser, and a hybrid Flash Drive with USB and Smartphone plugs on it.

I have attached a Collection of 3 Areas created by Ride Command, of the Southern half of Deschutes National Park. Due to forum limits, I named it a .txt file extension, you will need to rename it to a .gpx file extension before importing/uploading it to your Ride Command cloud or putting it on a USB flash drive to load into the 7SDD, with the Feb. 2024 version of Software.

The 7SDD cannot CREATE areas. If you have updated it with the current version of Software, it certainly can DISPLAY them.

If you load the file I posted. Changed the extension to .gpx, and imported it into our 7SDD with either a sync from the cloud or an import from a USB flash drive, it would show up similar to the picture I took on a PC.
