700 Dragon Steering column broke

Hello has anybody had this happen and if so how did you repair it.Went to the mountains with a friend just got up top and he called us back he had no steering the column broke right below the top mount or bearing.we had it welded up and rode 2 more days.I think it is a 2007 Dragon thanks

I broke two of them on my 2007 Dragon. They are very soft. Actually, Polaris did my first one under warranty. The second one was from impact on a really hard hit.

They are tough to replace too. You basically have to pull the motor to do it because the steering mount and adjustment is under the motor. I would replace the one you welded because it will now have other weak points in it. It sucks not being able to steer your sled (or brake effectively) if you have to be towed out.

One ride last year we had an 08D8 break a steering posst off way back in the mtns. That was fun try to get it out of there. Had to tow it to steer it, but was too deep and soft to just tow it. So the owner of the sled had to sit on the dead sled and run the throttle to get it up the mtns we had to climb to get out. Of course it was comical watching him fall off repeatedly since there was nothing to hang on to other than the gas cap.... Long ride out that day.

REPLACE IT!!! The welded one might work as a spare to get through a day, but I would not trust it day in and day out.

bent mine to , new one from the dealer 105$, not to fun to change , if i had to do it again i would buy the crome moly one that people are talking about on snowest . :beer;

Check with Wildchild. He does some cool stuff if he is still around. He did replacement posts for older sleds, I'd bet he came up with one for the IQ too. If I break my D8 post, I will likely do just that.

i broke mine last year was picking a line up a steep tree littered hill and mashed the throttle and turned it to to the left so when my skis came back down id be in a sidehilling motion my skis where about 3ft high and when they came down i was on the right side or the sled getting ready to pick a new line and the post broke and down she went nice and fast down into a big tree absolutely sucked

I broke mine last year on the last ride of the season. Had the guys at Bearlodge weld it up and rode 2 more days. Lucky enough it broke close to the lodge. I Have a replacement coming from Wildchild. Super guy to work with. I will have it replaced when they do the 800 update and should be good to go.

I broke my stearing stem at the top of the mount last friday. Got it welded. Today I went up and the damn thing broke at the bottom of the mount 1 1/2hours into the ride. I dont think I would waste my time installing an oem one in because it will just break again. My sled is an 08 d8. My buddy has an 09 d8. The stem is totally redesigned. Looks alot stronger than the 08 model. Oh and it is not very fun riding out with no stearing (my last two rides). Im getting real close to changing brands with all the engine problems (3 rebuilds) and now this. I love how this sled handles but its getting to the point Im scared to get to far away from the truck.

Do you have picks of Wildchild's post? What did that cost?
