Any link to the rules?

Hey guys the white river snowmobile club is planning a 70 mile cross country race for March 12th outside of meeker, co. It'll consist of about 29 miles of groomed trail and 41 of ungroomed trail. The plan as of now is to have 5 classes.
18-49 stock/improved 600/800 May split up if there's a demand)
50+
Women's
Vintage
Open modified.
The idea is to have fewer classes so the pot will be bigger for each. The entry fee is set at $35.
As we obtain more event sponsors we'll have better idea of what the winnings will be for each class.
There will be solid plan set soon. I just wanted to get the word out for anyone interested and to get others to spread the word. This wont be your typical Midwest flatland cross country race.

IM IN!

Way cool!

That sounds like a lot of fun! I'm interested in the 50+ class(es). Looking forward to reading more details.

We are working on a website and facebook now. The rules will follow the ISR for cross country closely. The difference will be our class breakouts.
All classes will be ran as a stock/improved stock besides the open class. This means

  • No internal engine mods are allowed.eg big bores, porting, raised compression, ect.
  • No forced induction or nitrous
  • other common mods will be allowed such as exhaust and suspension.
Anything with internal engine mods or forced induction will run in the open class.

The start format will be one racer at a time leaving every 30 seconds. there will be a few check points to prevent major course cutting.
the goal is to have at least $500 for the winner in each class. 2nd and 3rd will receive a cash prize as well.

Thanks for the additional info. You mentioned "closely following ISR rules" and I'd guess its the safety related rules that are most important since this isn't a sanctioned race (or at least you did not say that it is). Correct? The reason I ask is that there are some safety equipment rules that could catch some by surprise. For example, for cross-country races, the ISR rules state that a drivers helmet must be 75% blaze or international orange in color. Are you going to enforce such rules? I'm sure you see where I'm going - racers aren't aware of things like that and get turned away at tech inspection due to not meeting the requirements.

Here's a link to the CC ISR rules. http://isrracing.org/rules.cfm?aID=10042

You are a tough guy if you can do 70 miles in a race format on a vintage sled! What is the year cutoff for vintage?

I do see exactly where you are standing with this. This is something we are working on to have on the website that will be available soon. We want to give as many people the opportunity to race as possible, while keeping it safe. But we need a solid point to start from, and if things go well this could end up a ISR event in the future. The orange on the helmets is one thing we will not require, but recommend. We will require some high visibility markings on the body of the rider. Something even as simple as a mesh reflective vest will work. The better racers can see each other the better off we'll all be.

Haha yeah. that's why we are thinking of cutting the vintage to 33 miles. 1990 and older

Just an update. The website should be up tomorrow. It's whiteriversnowmobile.com. The race is officially titled the white river rumble. There's a few changes. But we're moving forward

Ok-don't make fun of me. I have a sweet stock 1990 Phazer2 that I plan to race in the vintage class. What do I have to do to it pass safety inspection?

Make fun of? That's the point of the vintage class! The rule book on the website will line you out. But if you haven't done any major hacking to it, all you will probably have to do is tape the glass headlight (if its glass). And make sure you still have some kind of a snow flap on the back.
