660foot Drag set up- Turbo Dragon 800

So hopefully some of you guys have read my post in "pump gas boost levels" in response to KAWGRN's comment about a stock XP beating a TD8 in a 660 foot drag. This is true for you non-believers. I do want to say that any set up for 660ft stock 800cc sled will absolutely beat our TRUE MOUNTAIN TURBO sleds. There is a huge difference between a 660 foot sled and a true mountain sled.

So here are my Q's
* If you were to setup your TD8 for a 660 foot drag what would you do....
What Gearing, clutching (springs, weights), fuel and boost would you use? This is interesting because I watched these "drag set up Sleds" beat all of the turbos that were there, not just mine.

Lets hear it guru's what would you do?

Mines a 850 big bore turbo'd but I ran the same set up as the mountains as far as helix just changed my weights and primary spring. We were racing 500 feet and the sled was nasty. I got 2nd with shain stangers 1200 the only one to beat me.

This is what I ran

Eightysixd red primary spring
65-75 CPC turbo mag weights (These are very aggressive weights and free on the bottom end when put in a polaris vs a cat.)
50 strait helix
black green team secondary spring.

Derick,,, How much boost were you running against shains sled????bet it wasnt 8#

just concentrate on the holeshot..the first 60 to 100 ft. is where the drags are won.Simply put...it's hard to run down a sled that jumps out of the hole like a rocket...seen it many times

I'm sincerly curious...

How many on here actually "drag race" as a majority of thier riding??

Its not that we drag race per say but theres always the road on the way back to the truck!!!!! and your with all your riding buds!!! just sayin!!!!:face-icon-small-hap

It would seem to me that something setup to have optimal drag performance might not be a good sled for technical mountain work or 2000 foot chute pulls with varying snow conditions.

Seems to me you would sacrifice a lot of user-flexibility if setup specifically for drags.

I would agree. I guess living out West in the mountains I am not familiar with setting up your sled to run such short distances. The only "drag" racing I have done is racing to the top of the mountain couple thousand feet long.

No turbo guru here, but we did a '09 Dragon with a aero setup at 12lbs. and I tried alot of different setups just for my own knowledge and to see how it would react.
Compared to a very good running XP, in a 0-60,70 run, there was one setup that had a solid 4-5 sled lengths on the XP. Using some of the typical "recomended" turbo setups the sleds were pretty close in the shorter races.
If I recall correctly it was a 175/260 primary spring (D&D? Cat spring?) with 10-74's, a 54/40/46 helix with a red/pink spring. Definatly not a good "all-around" setup, but it was very quick on the flats. It launched violently!

Exactly. Probably almost none of us. That is why myself and the other turbos lost to the XP's that were set up to get everything they had out of the sled in 660 foot. I do believe that a "drag specific" sled would not be the greatest for boondocking-chute pulls. They are just different beast. But on the other hand it would be cool to know a proven Clutch setup, gearing etc just for the 660ft drag. Could be fun for a day. I'm sure someone on here will chime in as this is a very young topic on snowest.

Winterbrew....when you say you were running against a well setup Xp was it set up just for the 660 or was it a hot running mountain sled. There is a huge difference between the two. My turbo will spank many well set up mountain sleds as the starts are pretty close and then the spool does it's job. Just wondering cause those felker sled were running really really good in the 660ft.

clutching, more clutching and then a little more clutching.

Like I pointed out in the other thread, I know Lynn's one sled is far from stock. High compression head, porting, larger carbs, modded pipe (maybe a Ski factory race pipe?). I cannot remember if it was bored anymore or not.

My XP is not a drag sled set up for 660ft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its my wifes!!!!!!

It was our mountian setup in the XP....which also happens to work very good in short-med drags. This was just informal racing on lakes and roads.

Hey !! winterbrew Just like me LOL:face-icon-small-win Looks like you cant clutch a Polaris turbo either!!!!!!LOL:face-icon-small-hap
