660 problems

Just looking for some opinions on issues we are having with a Carl's 660 sled. It's a 2012 that a buddy of mine bought a couple years ago. At about this time last year he squeaked a piston but we attributed it to cold seize because he wasn't very good about warming it up before taking off. So it had a new piston put in and it ran the rest of last year. Now this year it wasn't idling quite right, it really wasn't last year either, so I checked the tps and the idle was set right from the dealer but when I checked the base setting it was at 0.86 which explains the idle problem. I set it at .70 and set the idle at .94. It idled great but would not go into reverse, it would just die and not restart when the button was pushed.
So the compression was checked and it only had 80 lbs on each cylinder. After taking the top end off we found both of the Pistons to be scored. He said it had been using the same amount of oil as his 800 so I'm just looking for suggestions as to what you think could be causing this after only 4-500 miles.

You running racing fuel. Or at least a mix like 30% sher looks like its not burning right.is both sides of the piston like that

Is he running the recommended pre-mix in the tank? I know Carl's recommends a 1/2 oz per gallon on top of the oil injection. Might be worth a phone call. Has the sled been overheated? I know our 660 runs a bit hotter then it did as a 600, but we've not had an issue thus far.

We have talked to Carl's and they didn't really have any ideas. We did send them the ecu so they can check it and make sure it was flashed properly. I don't believe he was running any oil in the gas however the oil pump has now been turned up a couple turns and he said he would start mixing a little oil in.

Another thought: If the cylinder was damaged on the initial failure it may be distorted, causing clearance issues. Carl's uses a 700 polaris piston, perhaps your buddy got the wrong one or an aftermarket version that fits differently? This is a very unusual failure, as Carl's stuff is generally bulletproof - I wouldn't hesitate to send a Polaris product their way based on experience.

That almost looks like belt dust ingestion on the intake side mine did that when my air box got knocked loose . and it was on my stocker

Might be something good to check out slash. Also please do not take this thread as me trying to bash a Carl's product. From what I've seen they do great work. As far as the piston, we called Carl's the last time this sled went down to make sure we got the correct Polaris Pistons for their kit.
