600 RMK Engine Failure

Hi

We lost one side of the motor on a 2012 600 Pro RMK with less than 800 miles on it. Piston and cylinder got REALLY hot. It looks like it wasn't getting oil. The oil tank was 3/4 full of VES Gold.

About the only thing we can think of is that it was on its side for a good part of a day while we were changing out the track a few days before. The sled ran great for a couple of short rides after that track swap before it just shut down, coolant temps looked good, etc.

Could we have introduced an air bubble while it was tipped over that starved it of oil? Anything else to look for? This makes me nervous as we tip sleds over all the time to work on them.

Thoughts?

The wifes 2013 600 rmk burned down last year with only 350km on it.

Got told by the dealer after warranty that the lower rod bearing had seized up........seems strange also.

They didn't want to talk much more about it.

No controversy over oil cap, when you have them upside down or on side oil gets in cap and stops the ball from working even worse than stock.I have been screaming for people to vent their damn oil tank..

Well the 2012 600 pro rmks did have a TSB for a kinky oil line the fix was to zip tie the oil line up and bleed the pump was this ever done?

I have a 12 600 as well, had to take it back to the dealer to get this recall done at 200 miles, it started to consume slightly more oil after that. I have just over 1000 now and all seems fine

I burned one down because of that recall - bought it used and recall hadn't been done, burned down at 375 miles. If I recall it was only one cylinder too.

I was lucky because the sled wasn't even a year old and my dealer talked Polaris into covering it even though the TSB had been ignored by the previous owner. Luckily we transferred the warranty immediately on purchase.

Moral of the story - if you are buying a used sled run the VIN through your dealer and make sure any technical service bulletins have been done. Actually I'm kinda glad I didn't because who knows how much damage had already been done to the cylinder and if the recall had been done maybe I would have just had a time bomb on my hands.

Anybody have a copy of that bulletin with description of repair-which line?

I don't have a 600 but as I learn my 800 I am finding the Mag side puddles way less oil than the PTO side and it has me looking for things.
