600 HO exhaust valves

Hey there, I have a '06 600 switchback, I was cleaning the exhaust valves the other day when I noticed something odd. It appeared like the valve had been wearing on the piston. I decided to break down the top end and to my surprise the valves on both sides are in fact rubbing on the pistons. Just caught it in time! I have used recommended oil, recommended gas, and have been cleaning them every 1000 miles. Not sure of the cause, but to me it looks like the valve stops are wearing, any help or ideas would be a great help!

I have heard of this before, but have never seen it. I thought someone had mentioned if the valves get too hot they can contact the piston. I'm not sure what you would replace on that. The valves or the cylinders? Are the valves themselves worn on the stops or the inside of the valve chamber?
Hopefully someone with this experience will chime in for you.

It appears that both the cylinder stops and the valve it self are worn, but with no specs from polaris on the parts, its hard to tell which is worst. So far I think it looks like I should replace complete top end.

take the sled into your dealer, even if its out of warranty your dealer can ask polaris to do a good will warranty..most likely polaris will fix it..definately something that shouldnt happen...

I was doing my fall tuning/repairs on my 06 600 rmk and also noticed valve issues (last ride of the season I noticed a hell of a bog in mid range)

I took my valves apart to clean and service. When I took the caps off the entire rubber was coated with a oily carbon buildup (this section is normally fairly clean) I took all the parts of the valve through my parts washer and noticed that a number of parts inside the valve had actually failed

Parts that failed were (reference the picture)

These parts were shot on both cylinders. There doesn't appear to be any contact from the valve body with the cylinder. I see no signs of wear and a compression test yielded 125# on both sides

I would suggest checking these parts for wear. Sled has 6000 miles or so.

TW,

How many miles on your sled ?

My '08 did the same thing last season when it broke down, added an extra gasket to hopefully remedy the problem.

the sled has about 7000 miles, I too thought of adding another gasket, but it doesn't seem like the proper fix rather just a patch on an underling problem. I am waiting for a response from the dealer, and trying to find specs to measure some of the possible problem parts.

If the valve is hitting the piston, putting a second gasket on will not help you. The valve stop is in the cylinder. Think about it, when you put the valve in you have to compress the valve spring in order to get the body of the valve to the cylinder in order to bolt it on.

i have a 2008 dragon that is always dogging in the mid-ranger 35-45 mph. it has 1600 miles on it and i have the same oil residue inside the bellows. i did not think this is normal. you guys think those parts that failed on mickey's already failed on my sled? this damn thing is under warranty but i'm considering buying the stainless steel valve kits because i'm sick of this crap. i don't think polaris would consider these parts "failed" and would just tell me to bring my sled back home. you guys think i should talk to my dealer about it? i've never seen this much black residue on my xc which is what got my thinking about its abnormality.
