60-92 inches of snow through Monday!!!??

So if you go to the nws page and do the point forecast for the top of glacier peak it gives you an elevation of 8886 ft. If my math skills serve me, they are calling for some big snow up there. I don't think I have ever seen a forecast like that. To bad its all wilderness.

So get out the snow shoes and go for a hike, take pics and post them! We need to see more snow pics!!! :face-icon-small-hap

Big storm making landfall IN THE GREAT state of WASHINGTON

.

Although there is quite the Atmospheric River, “AR” set up for the pacific Northwest in the coming days…..the high country around Mammoth will only experience dry weather, however breezy at times through the middle of next week. The earlier high temperature forecast for 70F the early part of next week looks a bit over done now from this mornings perspective, however our weather will hold seasonal temperature wise into next week with just some high clouds. The powerful storm with typhoon moisture that is heading for Washington State this weekend…effectively getting hung up there. Eventually the upper low gets stretched southward into California in the form of a stretched out splitting trof that brings some showers as far south as Tahoe with windy or breezy weather and some cooling to Mammoth next Wednesday. Thereafter…… 500mb heights increase again for even warmer weather in the 8 to 14 day period.

EL Nino:

The CFS V2 guidance has the tempo picking up for El Nino this winter. It has it looking both stronger possibly in the moderate range and arriving sooner…….

Get the sandbags ready, we are due for some water. Seems like the flood years are bad (not necessarily quantity but quality, i.e. less quality powder days, more concrete) snow years.

Generally less than avg base, but has had a few years with significant snow depth. No data in front of me but seat of the pants seems like it cruds up sooner and melts faster than the la nina years. Just depends on the snow alignments and pattern.

Is El Nino good for snow or bad?

They say its bad, but it was a elnino year when we had a HUGE winter and broke the world record snowfall for a year at Mt Baker....over 1000 inches. I think Snoq saw over 600 inches that year at 3000ft. :face-icon-small-coo
