Just looking at new trucks, wondering how the milleage and reliability is on the new diesel fords. Im primarily a gm guy, have a 07 gmc 6.6 duramax with edge, and love it, great trannys, looking to trade (tax Reasons) and wonder how the fords are, don't really want to give any more money to government run auto company. Test drove one today seamed nice, decent power, just finding it hard to switch, owned two duramax's and never had a problem yet. Any input would be helpfull. Need it not just to tow sleds out west, but skid loaders, mini excavators, ect.

My dad picked one up in october, gets about 19-20mpg on the highway not towing, 12-14 highway towing a 19'enclosed with two sleds, about 12 in town. Has a plenty of power IMO, as far as reliability, it only has 4000ish miles so thats hard to comment on.

6000 miles on mine thus far , not one problem. Lots of power. I have not had my fifth wheel camper behind it yet but am anxious to do so. I have a four-place enclosed and it does not even know it's back there. Lock it 6th gear on a 2-lane and just lugs along. I have seen as high as 21 mpg, but that was empty running 65mph. Towing it is around 11-14 depending on what trailer I have behind it. Quietest Ford diesel ever too.

I agree on the government part. I am a Ford owner because I had a discount. The discount is now gone and I might have considered a GM. Not anymore. I want less government not more. Sorry if I turned this political.

Only have 1300 miles on mine. Pulls my 24' enclosed work trailer with eaze. Like stated before, lock it in 6th and it lugs great! about 12mpg pulling at 68-72. I cant really tell you what i get unloaded since everytime i was on the highway I was bucking a wind (15-30mph, ND for ya) but yet i was still able to achieve 14.5-16.5 at 79mph. Great truck and I am very happy with it.

I work for a large oil field service company and we have both new fords and GMC diesel trucks crew cab long beds My truck is a ford but others i work with have the gmc and I will say after putting 30,000 plus miles on them in the last 6 months all of us agree the ford is a far superior truck it tows better and we tow a lot. also there is more room in the ford for passengers and overall the ride is better now these are base models and the ford has a few more goodies for being base than the gmc. I will tell you the gmc is more comfortable for the driver at first but once they break in the fords are better in the comfort department. Also we had lots of problems with the gmc uriea tanks freezing and having them go into limp mode allot during cold weather also if you run gmc to long at idle they go into limp mode easy. always had to get towed to dealer and the gmc burned through urea a lot faster average 1500 miles per uria fill up versus fords 4500 miles between fill ups. Dont get me wrong ford had some urie tank freeze and go into limp mode after idling a while but one time to dealer and they never did it agian were the gmc always had problems even after going to dealer.

Got 6000 miles on mine. Just pulled 2 place trailer to WY got 11.5 mpg otherwise about 15 daily drives, and 17 to 20 on hwy. Had 5 guys in it on drive home not terible. Love it tons of power.

I work at a Ford store so you can take that for what's its worth. Anyways we have sold well over a hundred of these things since they came out and all we ever see them back for is an oil change. I'm not even sure our diesel techs know how to work on them :) jk.

Really though I have personally put over 15,000 miles on these trucks with about half of that towing and have nothing but great things to say about them. And since these have come out I've had many DMax's/Cummins traded in on them and that rarely happened before!

Thanks for the feedback, I have talked to a few guys with new fords since I posted this, they said they got about 19 mpg to start but once broken in they said the get about 14mpg now????? I don't really want it worse than what I got, with my 07.5 GMC i get about 22hwy @ 65-75 mph range and about 17 running around, and thats not being real easy on the foot pedal (when they are chipped and have up to 540 horsey's I can't help myself :0 ). what to do ? what to do?

mileage numbers as other ford owners above. great power.
a few non performance issues:
1) silver/'chrome' finish that surrounds the interior heater/air cond. vents - great for reflecting sunlight in your eyes to blind you when driving - i'll bet i'm not the only one to experience that. very annoying.
2) bottom of driver side door, interior side, painted color of exterior trim color rather than main truck color. other 3 doors of crew cab painted correctly.

still think is great truck so far but paying this kind of money for truck simple things like that should not happen. hope they paid more attention to the engine/transmission/brakes then they did to the above.

Gotta compare apples to apples, i.e. - put all of this emissions BS required now on that GMC , and minus out the chip and see what you get. This new 6.7 has over 800 lbs/ of torque , stock - no chipping or programmers required.

Hear nothing but good about these things so far. Finally got do drive a 100 mile old one two days ago, and fell in love! If it wasn't for the 72+ grand part up here in Canuckistan I'd love one!
We're gonna race my tuned 6.0 against it just to see... Even if I'm on big tires lol

My 6.7 feels just about as strong as my 05 6.0 with ID street tune. Pulling, its feels right with it. Hard to compare though (5spd-6spd & 3.73-3.31)

I'm an old school Chevy guy (gotta love SBC & BBC) but drive an 02 F250 7.3 and love it. I work on the new Fords daily and have mixed emotions about them. We have had almost zero problems with the new fords powertrain, however the bodies are made of tin foil. You gotta be careful what you do with them or you'll dent them, especially the tailgates. We have been installing arrowboards for construction purposes, and we have to tie in the bed floor, bed rails and bed front pieces together or else the front corners of the bed will fall apart. Junk.

I love the power of the new 6.7 but I don't like the way drives and it seems to shift weird sometimes. Guess I'm just spoiled with my 7.3.

That is a few times I have heard the shifting too much or weird at times on the new 6.7. I don't understand that. I have owned the 7.3's, 6.0, 6.4 and now the 6.7. This truck I feel picks the right gear and stays in it. It just lugs along. City driving it gets into 5th gear by 30 MPH and stays there. Where I notice especially is going up hills (empty) it will stay in 6th gear down to 40 MPH if you want vs. the same hill I pull daily ALL of my Ford diesels in the past geared down one gear , sometimes two. I swear I had my 6.0 that geared down at the slightest incline or thought of having to pull a hill.

If all else fails , put it in "M" and lock it in a gear. That is the greatest function of that powertrain. I lock it in 6th when towing my 4-place on two-lane and it does just fine.

so the bodies are different thickness/strength then pre-2011 super duty trucks? i do have a small dent/ding on my tailgate where i think a rock must have hit the trailer and shot back at the tail gait. only thing I can see would have done that?
