Anyone have any experience yet with the 6.2L Direct Injection coupled with the 8 speed automatic? I'm guess the towing with a pickup would be pretty nice?

Thanks in advance for sharing your likes/dislikes with this engine/transmission combination.

I have a 2014 with the direct injected 6.2 but it doesnt have the 8 Speed (that's new for 2015) The 6.2 with the 6 speed trans works awesome for towing. I have a 24ft enclosed, that ive had loaded with 5,000lbs pulling in the mountains at 7,000ft and could go as fast as I wanted uphill. The great fuel mileage is an added bonus. Not towing, living at 6200 ft I get 22 mpg driving back and forth to work. Get it out on the hwy out of the mountains and 25+mpg is common.
FYI, this engine does require premium fuel if you want to use all of its power. Eric

Its a 1/2 ton. You cant get it in a 3/4 ton and I dont really need a 3/4. I have a truckboss sled deck on it but only have 1 sled on it 99% of the time. Legally its overweight with 2 sleds on the deck once you include fuel, gear, passengers.

The fuel mileage comes from the active cyl management. It runs on 4cyl's when cruising and it does it flawlessly. You never notice it. Eric

I haven't drove a lot of miles on the 6.2l with the 8-speed, only because they sell as fast as we can get them in. I don't like to drive sold vehicles. The little time I've put on them, they rip. Same motor and transmission that goes into the Yukon and Yukon XL with the Denali trim. Those vehicles are far heavier than a truck.

SRX what rear axle do you have?

3.73, its required with the 6.2. The lower ratio allows it to use the 4cy mode more efficiently.

In a drag race, the 14 with the 6 speed is quicker then the 15 with the 8 speed :) 14 or 15...they ROCK!

I love the truck but hate the shocks, No rebound dampening. When the tire drops into a pot hole its like you just fell off a cliff! Eric

It's not required. You can get as low as a 3.23 ratio. In fact with the 6.2l I think you can only get a 3.23 or a 3.42

Edit... You can get a 2014 with the 6-speed with the 3.73

You can't get an 8-speed with the 3.73 ratio. It's really not needed with the extra gears, your 1st gear total axle ratio is plenty low with the 3.42.

That's probably why you are quicker with the 6-speed than the 8-speed in a drag race. The 8-speed transmission is an amazing transmission, its derived from the Corvette much like the 6.2 is (obviously, different tunes and cams).
