My truck started running funny so I checked my codes and came up with a cam position sesor error. What are the syptoms of this problem? I hear it is a common problem with these engines?

Here is a link to a thread on FTE...look at post #6...good chance you have a wire chaffing (common problem). http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/831314-just-died-on-me.html

You can do a quick check of the wiring harness that runs along the valve covers (between the valve cover and the intake manifold)...I had this problem with the harness rubbing on a bolt...mine would just die for a second like the key had been shut off. I fixed the chaffing and problem solved.

WIth the truck idling...push down along the length of the harness working from one end to the other and see if you can duplicate the problem.

good luck!!

I will give that an inspection, although it has never died. It just seems to have lost some power. I notice it most pulling a load, when I get into the throttle it pours out the black smoke like crazy.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filters? Diesel fuel is cr@p these days...and make sure you use either Motorcraft or Fram filters (the Fram is cheaper at Schucks...same exact filters).

You should poke around the FTE site and read some of the info on the 6.0, there is some great info there.

I have been on the FTE sight thanks for the lead. I had the oil and all filters changed at one of those Quick lube places right before it started running this way. If Bickfords will ever call me back and set up the service call I am going to have them change everthing again to motorcraft.

Dont go to the regular Bickford...go to the Bickford Fleet Diesel shop...they ONLY work on Diesels.

Dan Valentine is the manager there...Give him a call...great guy...straight shooter.

Sounds like the quicky lube might have used the wrong fuel filters.

I will do that. My service guy, Randy, seems to have a problem calling his customers back these days anyway. I thought you were a southender Mod, sounds like you have delt with Bickford for a while.

lol...I guess compared to Granite Falls, I'm a "south ender" :D .

We live about 1/2 way between Woodinville and Monroe.

Bickford Fleet was recommended by a friend...I've had them replace an EGR cooler...they are very fair and all they work on is diesels.

had to have a crank position sensor replaced on my chevy...dont see how anybody could get their arms in there to get to it! I sure couldn't. I think you would need to have about three elbows to get your hand to it!
