583 Rebuild

picked up a reman cylinder for the '97 583 Summit. After reassembly, I was installing the Rave valves and discovered the new cylinder has a smaller rave bore than my old one. All patterns are the same but the bore will not let the rave valve go in. The old bore is 3/4", the new one is 5/8". What cylinder do I have, and will it harm anything if I find the correct Rave valve and install. Can I just turn down my current valve body to fit...?

I would imagine your reman is from a slightly detuned model such as a sport or touring model of the same era. I think the 583 was used from 1989 to 1998 in several different models with many changes in port size, RV timing, etc. I would not vary the size of rave valves for tuning reasons, weight difference in valves would cause an imbalance of open and closing.
