500 mile service 08 nytro mtx - 400 bucks???

I know the oil needs to be changed in my 2008 FX Nytro MTX since I've hit the 500 mile mark, but my dealer wants to do like 4 hours of labor checking track tension/alignment, oil and filter change, check valve clearances, etc. to the tune of nearly 400 dollars.

Are they on crack, do I need all of this stuff to be checked or should I save my money (which being a full time student right now I have very little of) and just change the oil and filter myself, disregarding the other things. I can check the track tension, do the valve clearances need to be checked?

Is this insane or prudent?

TIA

Do it yourself....oil and filter. Dont worry about the valves. I'd check your chaincase bolt and change the fluid in there though.

this is all i am doing
oil
oil filter
chain case oil
chain tension
spark plugs - they were fine but changed them anyway.

If the dealer is gonna take the chaincase apart then that price is reasonable.

I would check that chaincase bolt also. which means you gotta at least take the cover off. Getting it back on can be annoying if you have reverse.

OK

Perfect. That is a reasonable laundry list of tasks to complete before the snow flies, all of which I can do and save a bundle by doing myself.

Thanks.

valve adjustment isnt for 25000 miles per the service manual. dealer is takin you for a ride. you can do it all yourself.

ski align, track align and adjustment, lube all suspension
oil and filter change
plug change (if you want, not required)
chaincase oil change and check tension.
belt check, clean clutches
top off with fuel, wash and wax,
ready to ride.

takes an afternoon doing it yourself. ski

And doing it yourself you can rest assured knowing it was even done and done correctly!

truth there...

Yeah, bought all the supplies yesterday, will be pulling the nytro into the garage today or tomorrow, and yes, I'll know it was all done.

60 bucks total for supplies, beats the heck out of 400 bones...

Tnx.
