5 year Extended Sled Warranty

Picked up a new Summit and thinking about getting one of these extended warranties. Seems like a good idea since sleds tend to fall apart, I plan to run the sled for at least 5 seasons. The dealer gave me two options:

Zurich – I can get a 5 year plan that looks to cover everything except wear items. Possibly better coverage than BEST?

BRP B.E.S.T. – I can only get a 4 year plan, cost more than the Zurich 5 year plan, but is the BRP sponsored coverage.

Anyone used Zurich? Experience with either?

Thanks!

If you don't mind would you post prices, and what are considered "wear Items" in the Zurich plan. I am thinking about the ext. warranty too. Thanks in advance.

The main thing you have to understand is that you basically aren't allowed to do any mods to your sled. If you have any plans to mod your sled you better read the fine print on those contracts REAL close. I personally run with the extended warranty's but my dealership will warranty anthying that they install. That, and the fact that I don't do much beyond pipe and clutching, I'm very happy with the extended warranty just make sure you realize what your signing up for.

Long post coming up!

I don’t plan to mod the motor…married, kids, fix’er up house, no time or money to use during riding season to deal with a down sled.

Here are the prices (not including tax and total coverage from date of purchase):
Zurich
60mo 1260
48mo 1144
36mo 1076

BEST
48mo 1348
36mo 1248
24mo 940

This is for an 09 Summit X 800 154”.

Zurich Items not covered:
Antenna mast, audio speakers and wiring, batteries, belts, hoses, lines, clamps, body parts, brake lining, brake rotors and drums, exhaust system, fairing, filter housings, final drive chain or belt and rear sprocket, frame, fuses and fusable links, glass, lenses, light bulbs, sealed beams, mirrors, mufflers or baffles, shocks, sidecar, spark plugs, thermostats, tires, wheels/spokes, trailer hitch, trim, upholstery, paint, moldings, windshield, and windshield mounts.

Best Items not covered: “Accessories, normal wear and maintenance items such as tires, batteries, bulbs, filters and lubricants are not covered. "

Not sure how this would work, but Zurich doesn’t force you to take it to a BRP shop for warranty work.

1 top end job and a set of reeds...I see actually using the warranty within 5 years.

Thanks
Ryan

i looked into an extended warranty when i bought my M7, make sure you read the fine print because the warranty doesn’t cover as much as you think. some of the repairs they consider to be "routine Maintenance" so they wont cover it. say you need a new top end, they consider that routine maintenance so its not covered, same with clutches and what not. Cant recall what else was defined as “routine maintenance” but I do remember I opted not to get it because it wasnt as great of a deal as i originally thought.

You pay, they reimburse you. That way, if they decide not to pay, you're screwed. Not a good situation for you...

These would be covered by BEST as well.

Personally, I would go for BEST. There are too many scammers out there and the last thing any warranty company wants to do is pay money out. They will do anything and everything to get out of it.

Also make sure to check the deductibles as well. I know from experience that BEST has a $50 deductible here in Canada, not sure if this is different in the US. I was happy to pay $50 for a new top end when I needed it a few years ago.

My experience with the non OEM sponsored extended warranties tend to be a pain to get coverage. The dealers don't like working with them because they are difficult to get them to cover the full amount and a lot of times they only cover partial. Where as the OEM sponsored ones are easier for dealers to actually get reimbursed.

Odds are you will be buying a new sled in 5 years. By then there will be stock turbos pump 200hp and only weigh 400lbs.....A guy can wish.

No BS but I snow checked a 09 800 163x and one of my two options was the 2 year "motor warranty". For 500 dollars more I got the four year bumper to bumper and four year motor warranty. Well worth it.:D

AKTURBO

Buy the extended warrenty from BRP. It will cover the fixs you do not want to or is the big dollar items. Well worth it.
I got lucky and my motor let go 3 weeks before my 2 year warrenty was up. That would have cost me about $6000.00--Ouch. After the repair--the shop said I could still buy the extedned BRP warrenty---DONE DEAL!!

It is a no brainer buddy. You spend over $10,500 on a sled. Cheap insurance.

H20SKE...

they want 1400 for the brp 4 year, what coverage do you have for 500? I bought the sled a week before the place I work at went under, now I'm really hesitant to spend 1400 I don't have, I could do 500.

Thanks again all for the info. Talked to rev800151's dealer, turns out there have been 2 price hikes since aug of this year. Was 500, then 900 then 1300. Thanks brp, hose your dealers now your customers.

I made up my mind, I'll wait for 1.95 years and maybe then I can afford what will then be a $2000 warranty.
