Just heard on 9 news that there are 5 people stuck in a ravine somewhere around Steamboat Springs. The news mentioned they were able to call a relative in Fort Collins and said they were somewhere near Summit Lake.

If anyone has any details they are willing to share, or how we can help, please post.

Thoughts and prayers go out to them...

The Steamboat newspaper said the group was able to start a fire last night and it is a relatively warm night up there (10 degrees at TOWER) with light snow and light winds. I was riding in the north fork yesterday and the snow has settled significantly but creeks and rocky zones have a thick layer of depth hoar lurking at the bottom of the snowpack.
I can imagine how miserable it would be to get a machine back up some of those north facing drainages that feed the north fork... SAR might be better off bringing a chainsaw and cutting their way to the bottom of the hill and driving back up out of the north fork.

Snow was wet and heavy and deep in some of those holes down there ... Hope they get out ok today.

weird. I remember seeing a small group about that size heading North towards Buff from RE near Fishhook Res at about 3:30 Monday. I have to wonder if it was them? Anybody know where the group started?
