Here's what they're saying for Utah:
THERE IS STILL GOOD MODEL AGREEMENT THAT HIGH PRESSURE WILL BREAK
DOWN EARLY NEXT WEEK...BRINGING MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE. THE HIGH
PRESSURE THAT HAS BEEN IN PLACE SINCE MID DECEMBER WILL
FLATTEN...ALLOWING A SERIES OF STORMS TO MOVE ACROSS THE AREA
THROUGHOUT NEXT WEEK. THERE IS STILL DISAGREEMENT AS TO EXACT
STORM TIMING AND DETAIL...WITH THE GFS MORE PROGRESSIVE THAN BOTH
THE EC AND THE GEM. HOWEVER...THE MODELS SEEM TO AGREE THAT
THESE SYSTEMS WILL HAVE MORE OF A FOCUS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
PORTION OF THE CWA."*

Its true, and lucky me, I live in the Tahoe Area. Probably 15 feet of snow in the next 10 days. I'm heading out this Friday, we got nearly 2 feet in some places yesturday. And since it will be snowing about 1-3 inches an hour starting Saturday, I need to get a little riding in. We don't ride during the white outs with 100MPH winds. But the blue skies that follow are heaven on earth!

These forecaster's heads are filled with helium.
3.5" of rain at 7k elev means the lake will get nothing but rain.

I'm going to say based on the prior forecast for this season that the storms bring a total of 2' for the entire week.

was just watching weather channel, HOLY CHIT! you guys are gonna get drilled, utah and colorado are right in line also, parts of wyoming, everyone looks like they are gonna get their share. hope you all got some sick time built up

Here is a couple of other forecasts from some local Sierra Nevada forecasters!!
Tahoe Weather Discussion.com
Southern CA has already been warned to start filling sandbags as 230 mph jetstream with several storms riding along it is getting ready to move in this weekend. You have 3 days to rest up and get ready.

Just going to concentrate on the first 4 storms. Storm #1 brings only clouds on Saturday as it is the fullback coming through to push the ridge, moisten the atmoshphere, and clear the way for the train. Storm #2 arrives Sunday night lasting into Monday bringing 1.5 feet at lake level to over 2 feet on the crest. Storm #3 arrives Tuesday and although the strongest part is to our South we still get another foot at lake level with up to 2 feet on the crest. Storm #4 arrives around Wednesday night into Thursday and could be the biggest storm bringing another 1.5 feet to lake level and over 2 feet on the crest. These are preliminary estimates that could could go up or down slightly depending on exact storm tracks, but they should be pretty close. 5 day storm totals by Friday would be 3-4 feet at lake level, with 4-6 feet above 7000 ft., and over 6 feet on the crest. Will adjust the amounts as new info comes in.

That is not the end. The moist jet could keep snow showers going into Saturday and after a brief break another storm train may be poised to create dejavu the following week. Models catching onto the teleconnection forecasts that would point towards continued storminess. Looks like the next storm may move in Sunday night/Monday and then more storms to follow that week.

Amazingly the snow levels look to stay well below lake level all week and temps will only be in the 20’s on the mountains. This will create light snow and up the totals with the higher snow ratios. This is not hype, this major weather event is on the way whether you believe it or not. NWS is already at a 5 out of 5 on their confidence scale for next week. We need the snow because even after an amazing December, after the last couple of weeks the Tahoe Basin’s snowpack is only 77% of average. Stay tuned as I will be fine tuning snow amounts for each storm…..BA

And Dweeb Report Mammoth
NINO HOSER STILL ON IT'S WAY.....FOR MAMMOTH LOCALS...THIS WEEKEND A GOOD TIME TO PREPARE...GET CHAINS HANDY....EVEN FOR FOUR WHEEL DRIVES.....SNOW SHOVELS....AND TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NECESSITIES....FUTURE ROAD CLOSURES ALWAYS A POSSIBILITY WITH EVENTS LIKE THE ONE THAT IS APPROACHING.....

ALTHOUGH LITTLE IN THE WAY OF SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND....THE TEMPO WILL PICK UP SUNDAY AFTERNOON WITH 6 TO 12 INCHES POSSIBLE OVER THE UPPER ELEVATIONS BY MONDAY MORNING......SNOWFALL WILL THEN TURN HEAVY LATER IN THE DAY MONDAY WITH LITTLE
LET-UP THROUGH THURSDAY....

LATEST HPC SIERRA SNOWFALL ESTIMATES ARE IN THE 8 T0 12 FOOT RANGE OVER THE CREST BY THURSDAY AM. CUT THAT IN HALF AND THAT'S WHATS POSSIBLE FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH NEAR THE VILLAGE. (4 TO 6 FEET)

THE PATTERN ADVERTISED WILL CONTINUE INTO AND BEYOND THAT FOLLOWING WEEKEND WITH A BREAK LATE IN THE WEEK.

THIS EVENT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO APPROACH OR RIVAL THE JANUARY/FEBRUARY 1998 EL NINO EVENT IN CENTRAL CA AND THE JANUARY 1995 TIME FRAME FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. QPF TOTALS FROM MODEL GUIDANCE ARE VERY HIGH WITH AN OVERALL RANGE OF 7-12 LIQUID INCHES DURING THIS FORECAST PERIOD OVER COASTAL REGIONS/SIERRA. EXPECT CONSIDERABLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER A MULTIDAY PERIOD WITH 10-20 INCH MOUNTAIN AMOUNTS WITH EVEN HIGHER AMOUNTS OVER FAVORABLE TERRAIN. SIERRA MOUNTAIN SNOWS MAY BE IN THE 8-12 FOOT RANGE. AS THE JET CORE SHIFTS SOUTHWARD THE HEAVIER PRECIPITATION WILL BE MORE CONCENTRATED INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE SIMILAR RAINFALL NUMBERS MAYBE OVER ESPECIALLY FAVORABLE TERRAIN. SOME LOCAL FAVORED TERRAIN AREAS WILL MOST LIKELY APPROACH "20" INCH LIQUID AMOUNTS DURING THIS PERIOD WITH THE EVENT "CONTINUING PAST OUR 7 DAY RANGE", YIELDING EVEN HIGHER TOTALS. VERY HEAVY SNOWS CAN BE EXPECTED OVER HIGHER TERRAIN AND A FLOODING/MUDSLIDE PROBLEMS APPEAR LIKELY. A HEAVY RAIN THREAT FOR ARIZONA APPEARS IN STORE THURSDAY INTO SATURDAY.
