i have 02 avalanche with 95,000 miles. it uses a couple of quarts of oil in 5000 miles. which maybe some what normal. but the thing is it never used a drop of oil untill earlier this summer. what could be wrong and should i worry about it.

I'd look for real slow leaks. They may not even drip, but even if they sweat, you'll lose more than you think. Every GM I'v owned up until my current big clock has used just under a quart between oil changes. The big blocks use more.

Not sure what the problem could be, but I'm pretty sure you have a problem. I had a 2000 5.3L Silverado that never burned a single drop in the 147,000 miles I drove it FWIW :o

Hopefully it isn't anything major.

I'd check the oil cooler lines first.

I run my oil and filter for a year or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first and I go through maybe a quart in that time. I've got 105,000 on mine.
