4X4 on Beasore Rd.

Were do I start? I am all for sharing the forest roads, but when the 4x4's tear it up so bad that you have to forty five accross the road to stay upright this is when I get upset. When I take my young girls into the cabin and it takes two hours to go ten miles this is wrong. Am I the only one that see's this???:face-icon-small-dis

Have to agree. I dread the road ride every time I ride up there. I've since left the kids sleds at a buddies cabin because the rode is unridable for them. Rode this past saturday and beasore was the worst i've seen it in the 10 years i've been riding up there. It seemed like I passed 50 jeeps. They were everywhere.

I hear ya too! We went up right after it was groomed and loved it! Never had seen it so smooth and quick for making a run up to the summit. Then by the VERY next day it was destroyed by 4X4's. It seems like they are only going up to see how far they can push their rigs. We have helped a few ill equipped and totally unprepared folks get back down who got hopelessly stuck from just going up "to see what its like".

It would be great if we could figure out a steeper more direct route that avoided the roads. But, Sky Ranch and Beasore are the only ways I know of and Cascadel In N.F. is out of the way.

yep was with john that day we had to wait it out because he park at chillkoot campground we parked at the turnout and they were in the middle of rode sideways spining almost going off the rode completly, it seems that when we were watching them they were doing it on purpose!. we all should do something about this they tear up everything in sight:face-icon-small-fro. www.cnsa.net is fighting for it everyone should join.:face-icon-small-hap

Completely agree... Is it a private road? Or an inholding accessed along a Forest Service Road? On the Eldo, we have a Forest Closure for the Winter monthes which prohibit 4x4 traffic but allow for all other use including sleds. Its a pain, its kinda lame really... If there is snow in the "high country," there is mud and dirt in the foothills...

Solution.....

Sky Ranch= 4x4

Beasore= Snowmobile

I like 4 wheeling too, as do most snowmobilers. It should be a respect thing at this point! It's very difficult to snowmobile through 2 foot ruts riding a backwards 3 wheeler!

Is this road groomed with state funds? If so hammer on your Forest Service contract adim.person this is his job for us snomo people. We have been having problems here on 108. Make the feds do there job. Thats what they get paid for.:face-icon-small-dis

I'll second that Captain!

The roads are public on Forest Service land. Beasore is rarely groomed but its done out of the goodness of the hearts from locals who own a cat.

Maybe a gate at Beasore just past Greys Road would be a good compromise. Or at least a sign saying no 4x4's past this point. That way 4x4's can still get up in the snow and head off down Greys over to Sky Ranch for a fun trip. Then the remainder of Beasore would be clear for snowmobilers. A combo lock could still allow cats through for grooming.

The gate could be left open depending on snow conditions early and late in the season so you don't have to ride on pavement and 4x4's can get through when there is not a ton of snow. The local snowmobile club could make the call on when its open or closed.

Hey everyone this has been an issue on this road for the last forty years!! Some years have been worse and some better. Recently it has been an all time worse. I have rode this road for the last 35 years, and before that my grandparents, and have never seen the traffic (4x4's) like I have in the last couple of years. (they are getting better and now traveling 10+ miles over the snow) Beasore Road is the major forest road to the high country out of Bass Lake, Ca. My question is what is CNSA going to do about this issue for the upcoming convention? This is the major route for all of the riding out of Bass Lake. We are all in this together all over the country and power is in numbers. May are voices be loud and heard, as this is the PUBLIC land of the United Stated of America.

To all who ride Beasore Rd. and this includes all who plan to attend the convention. Trying to regulate 4x4's by gate closure's or hard road closure's is the wrong attemp, this has been done in the past many years ago with little success. I can remember when there was a gate at coldspring summit and all the cabin owners had a lock on it. The funny thing was the jeeps climbed around it. Then the forest service tried to close down the forest during the winter on this road to all traffic (yes snowmobile's included). This is when it was dirt from Chilkoot Bridge. They could never deny access to the private property within the forest boundry and eventually the gates disappeared. We need to think out of the box and wisely as this is a HEAVILY used road by all!!

I dont know this area and aren't even close... never ridden it. But this is my HUMBLE opinion... sounds like some folks on here are short of SCREAMING for SOMEONE to do something. Think about what you ask for... this could be the first step to a total motor vehicle closure. In this day and age where more and more ground is getting locked up... all the gov. is looking for is an excuse. We do have a compareable situation with 4x4's on the trail before the snow gets way too deep here in our Lamoille Canyon, but I also follow the Roadless Initiative VERY CLOSELY. Just my .02 would be to be proactive with your local snowmobile club and get the off-road clubs involved. Find an alternative that might work for everyone... like that alternate route someone mentioned. Yelling at the F.S. to do their job?... BAD IDEA! Their "job" is to lock-up and enforce restricted access... CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR....

GREAT NEWS!! just got back from yesterday's ride, WOW:face-icon-small-sho the 4x4's have now made it to the top of cold spring's summit:mmph: powder crew is right!!!. i think that we all are going to half to deal with it and try to ride a ridge route/ rode on and off at time's

I know it sucks guys... I myself have been hauling down the road to fly up on a "hole" in the middle of the road with chunks of wood sticking out of it. Truth be told, in my youth... I left some holes here and there.:face-icon-small-sho The reality though is this (in my mind)... there is only a small window in a "normal" season that these 4x4's can rut up the road before its just too deep. El Nino this year has just compounded the issue because the snow level is so high up and the pack isnt deep. The Rubies here in NV are well over 60+ miles long... and we get ONE canyon (w/ a paved road up the bottom) and literally less than 3,000 acres to ride! Could anyone imagine the possible consequences if we started complaining about trucks punching up to the top for a month or two before the snow got too deep:rip:... we all keep our mouths shut and deal with it... and PRAY for EARLY and DEEP snow next year!!!

To err on the political process of all of this red tape... talk with your District Ranger(s). Get in the know with the recreation folks. All of the complaining in the world will not do a bit of good, but pro-active communication will. The voice of snowmobile clubs DOES influence decisions and policy on a local level. Forest Service LEO's also need to be in the know of violations and heard from us on these issues, if it comes to that. Inconvinience or not, its only worth the weight of what the policy states... no forest closures, no clout to stand on. Just MY .02 cents. Gut wrenching, but true

Hey I rode this last weekend at Beasore with much success. We stayed off the main road, got off trail and had alot of fun in the powder. It snowed friday thru sunday with a total of about 10" bye the time we left. The road had subsided with all the ruts and was overall not bad. It should be great riding for the cnsa convention, if we can get that local guy to groom it!! put up the $$$$$ :face-icon-small-hap:wine::face-icon-small-hap
