45 Liter gas tanks

I thought this was an upgrade I wouldn't really need, but having gone through a little over 10 gallons yesterday in under 6 hours has me rethinking it.

Just got off the phone with ADBoivin. They are out of stock on the 45L tanks. They have to order a minimum of 7 when they order from their supplier and won't order more until they have orders for 3 of them. I'm in for at least 1, so who else is ready to act now? There is a 3-4 week lead time from when we place the order for 3.

ThunderHawk, it is a must for us here out west to rejet our machines but you might want to have a look at the jetting on all your machines as well. A guy I talked to in Quebec told me 490 was plenty plenty plenty fat on the main (for an 800 near sea level elevation) and you could go down quite a bit, at least one size, and maybe down on the other jets too. This, along with a clutching setup that allows to "overdrive" kinda thing. Couldn't tell you the exact numbers but he told me he went from around 10 miles per gallon up to 16-17. (How ****** bad is that anyways !!! ... a guy's truck gets better mileage than his sled !)

Anyway, that's quite a bit of extra miles you can cover by doing that.

Little story of mine here (cause it's always fun to share old stories about Hawks !) :
Hawkfest '07 in Qc, we were leaving a sugar shack near the factory using the incerdible Qc trail network and heading to the "Massif du Sud" (ski hill that you can access by the back with snowmobiles, where ADB did most of their Mountain testing, top of the mtn is less than 3000'...), 3/4 of our way through we stopped at a gas station and I've been the one who threw in the most amount of gas ... 13 liters (3.43 Gal) for less than 40km (25 miles). That's probably the worst mileage per gallon I ever did in my life (around 7.2 miles per gallon). Good thing they did design the 503s with 17 liter tanks... Of course I was flooooooöôôôöooooored all the way trying to keep up with the "trail clutched" 6 & 8 Hounnerts guys of the group...

BuffaloHawk, is your good'ol 503 as bad on gas as mine was ?

O.K. can someone explain again. I have a 503 and want a bigger tank out of the 600 .What sizes are the tanks,503 must be around 30 ltr.

Anyone have one out of the 600 for sale and what is involved in changing it over.It didn't look like a direct swap when I had my 600 and 503 sitting side by side and I don't have the 600 anymore to compare it to.

when planning rides and gas stops i usually figure i get roughly 10 miles per gallon. if the snow is fluffy(east coast powder 2-4") lil less. or typical east coast ice maybe more... even if it only got 2 miles per gallon...who cares. its all about the fun factor!! plenty of gas stops along our roadways

The stock tank in the 503 is 4 1/2 gal and the 600 is 9 gal. 07 800's also have the 9 gal tank, while 08 800's have 12 gal tanks(45 liters).

When using the 12 gal tank, you need to add a second fuel pickup to avoid the problem of running out of gas going up a hill as the last of your fuel sloshes to the back of the long tank.

To do the change of installing a larger tank on the 503, there is a piece of plastic that needs to be cut out under the seat. After doing that, you need to rivet a piece of rubber covering the gap created by what you cut out. Other than that it is basic remove and replace.

I will have a used 9 gal tank to sell when I get the 12 gal for my 800. Call me.

So, are you coming to HawkFest East??

You also haver to cut a major frame support member out, while retaining the body mounts.. I really hated doing that.. I tried to relocate the frame support but was unable to..
the 6 or 800 doesnt have the member in question so it must not be that big of a deal.. none the less, I wish it was still on my hawk..There isnt much holding the frame rails together past the bulkhead..

Yea I knew there was something I saw when they were sitting side by side last year.

Wow, 490's. I run 260's on my jets. But being in deeper and wetter snow and having hills , my fuel mpg is between 6 and 7 per gal. In worst conditions , 45 miles is all I can get.
