Why do the magazines compare both the Apex and Nytro in classes they do not belong? I have read two mountain class shootouts the Nytro was paired to the 800's, and the Apex to the 1000 class. Whats the deal? The Nytro is aimed at the 600 class and should be ran in it, as should the Apex be ran in the 800 class. When the RX1 first came out it was ran in the 700cc class at most of the hillclimbs (assuming stock motor and naturally aspirated). I read that the Nytro was designed to race in the 600cc snowcross class. This is why Yamaha built the motor to run at low RPM's. Am I out to lunch here, or do others feel the same way? Sean

Most of the time I see the Nytro compared to the 700 rmk. Similar hp I guess. Snowest didnt really compare the 2 directly in hillclimbing, although I'm sure the RMK would out do it in stock form. The Apex should be in the 800 class as it has 150hp but maybe with the M1000 being the only 1000 now they are looking for something to compare it to. Just my 2 cents.

Good point. The apex is 998cc and Nytro is 1049cc. Apex has about 10-12 more hp out of the box.

Ok, maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine with some of the magazines. I did some searching on the histroy of the Nytro motor here is what I learned. In order to race in a 600cc Class a 4 stroke cannot have more than 3 cylinders, have a displacement not greater than 1050cc and run less than 9000rpm. Can someone confirm?
