Was up for a night ride and had my pto side jug fill full of coolant. . . haven't botherd pulling it apart yet I can only assume o-ring?? Another thing I noticed after my re-build was the excessive ammount of what seemed to be alot of un-burnt fuel/oil all over the jug, pipe pretty well everything. . . appears to be coming out of exhaust. . . anyone?
Sled has been tuned with monster twins a boondocker box. Plugs, egt, and wash show a nice burn. .

I have not had to pull the head of my m8 but on my old zr i am would say a head o ring not sealed properly, I am not too sure what sled you have but please post more details.

Were cylinders replated? Had poor replate from one company and base gasket surfaces wouldn't seal and we had coolant instantly in crankcase. Had to get new cylinders.

If the coolant was on top of the piston it most likely got in from a bad inner o-ring. If a base gasket was leaking it would not fill the cylinder but would be pulled into the crank case. Pull your head and take a look at the o-rings and go from there. When it was running was it pressuring up the coolant bottle? If it was its a o-ring.

Who in the H*** rebuilt it? Sounds like a cobble job.

Thanks i suppose it was a bit of a "cobble job". . . did it myself :beer;

These were my stock m7 jugs they don't appear to ever have been re-plated . . T

herTe was a considerable amount of antifreeze in the cylinder we know this because when the plugs were pulled I wanted to check for spark and with both the plugs pulled there was a good fountain of water coming out of that one jug. . . I have pulled the head off this morning and the orings don't appear to have been pinched in anyway though they do seem rather "pancaked" flat, Possibly overtorqued the head on re-assembly? my inch foot pound trq wrench is getting a little sloppy. . . also yes it was pressurizing my coolant system thus pointing towards a bad O-ring, therefore, looks like I will be putting in new o-rings and giving it a shot, I'm glad that when it happend it died instantly, doesn't appear to be any scoring of the piston or cylinder, no holes in the piston either :) Thanks for the help, oh and I had no pictures posted of the sled. . I doubt I will got to get it back together and try and ride the bloody thing!

If the o-rings were flat they were'nt sealing. Used rings are tough to keep in the groove when you re-assemble and because they screw a guy over so bad on the price, we all try to re-use them too much! When you torque the head down make sure you use a criss-cross pattern and take a little at a time. Lucky you did'nt score a cylinder. I don't know what I was looking at when I seen a 900 with the coolant laying on the outside.

When I rebuilt my 1000 I used new o-rings, and they had them bent, so they wouldn't lay flat. A buddy told me to put some RV gasket maker in the groove to hold them down, and hold them in place while you put the heads on. First rebuild on an M sled and I can see how when you put the head on it would be easy to have an o-ring come out.

Something to try.
