3rd drive belt blown in 300 miles!

First lasted a few hundy (light revy powder), 2nd lasted 1/4', 3rd was warmed up with about 12-15 miles of groomed trail with powder on top then about 3 miles of VERY DEEP powder (wot in the flats or stuck). 1 was snapped clean in half, the other two both ate the numbs on the compression (not jumping, just bouncing in the pow!).

Better carry at least 2 spare belts when its deep and hope that POO warranties these things at $150 each.

Just so we clarify...clutch belt or QuickDrive belt?

What is the status of your driveshaft? Which model year is your chassis?

I have never seen a carbon drive belt snapped in half?... One for the history books.

I agree with the posts above... sounds like something is wrong with your sled and not defective belts.

Sounds like a deeper problem. I have 600 hard deep pow miles on mine, with some modest jumps and drops.
 
I know a drive belt is around $200. And I thought a Quick Drive belt was even more.:face-icon-small-con
 
i jacked my sled off the ground and ran it to check the runout on the lower pulley. all i can say is it was not true...mine was wobbling around quite a bit. probably estimate it at .075" runout out on the end of the pulley. i did NOT have a dial indicator on it this is just an estimate, but the fact that it is very noticeable with the eye is not good. too much runout for a non-tensioned belt drive. another quality control failure by polaris, sloppy a** tolerances. who knows if its the pulley or the shaft, likely a combination of both. checked the shaft and it is NOT separated at all. Pulleys are cast they could be out of round and i'm sure the driveshaft is not perfect either. pretty pathetic

Have you been breaking these belts in proper? Most dealers have been telling there customers that they need 125-150 miles of no more then half throttle on and off stop and let it cool down and keep repeating. It's just like your clutch side belt if you take a brand new one put it on and go ride 2 feet of fresh pow your going to decrease the life of your belt.

You've started two threads about this now (once about the first one and now this one) with no response to possible problems. Have you checked anything mentioned in either post?
 
Have you been breaking these belts in proper? Most dealers have been telling there customers that they need 125-150 miles of no more then half throttle on and off stop and let it cool down and keep repeating.

So you buy a new 12k MTN sled, it snows 3' in the backcountry and you are not allowed to go over 1/2 throttle for 150 miles? That is close to 3 days of riding at half power in epic conditions, not acceptable IMO. None of the previous models or other manufactures require this kind of break in period, I think Polaris should figure out a way to have the quick drive broke in out of the crate in less then 10 miles if this is the issue.

I would look to the Axle wobble, its the know problem and will take out the belt
 
I've seen chains break to would be interesting if people would post when they break a chain I have broke 6 of them in my years of riding. Everyone is fast to throw pol under the bus. News flash 2014 pol will weigh 500lbs and have triple roller chain solid steel axle and steel tracks. Then everyone will wish they had a 13. I own a 13 and very happy with it. Rolling these belts over the pulleys can cause this also. No pics it didn't happen.
 
Why wouldn't polaris make a stand and run these belts to break them in before sending them out? Had a belt break while riding a friends turbo. took all the cogs off it. lucky i had it about bunrt down turning out of a climb in powder. could have been a bad deal in another rocky situation. only had 8 miles on it.

When I went over the belt brake-in procedure with my dealer, he said, no WOT on the trails until I had 100 miles on the belt. Said WOT in the powder was fine, but to let it cool often.
 
I think the original poster of this thread meant clutch belt no?
My clutch belt started to rip side chords out at 200 miles.
I blame this on myself for not enough aftermarket venting. And too long of deep wide open pulls.
With some venting I'm sure it will last longer then 200 ? I hope!
 
the belts and shafts were fine in the test sleds...once Polaris fixes the shaft issue the belt problem will be for the most part a non issue...the denominator is common..
