38 inches of SNOW IN DEADWOOD SD

i'm trying to gather some thoughts on where to ride this early in the season. any thoughts?

Trails don't open until Dec. 15th I think. Might get away with some logging road riding. Hunting season is open, but how are they going to get around with all that snow?

Guys I know we all want to ride, but remember there are enough groups out there trying to restrict riding why add hunters annd landowners on or near the trails? I saw on the SturgisBikeWeek webcams that there were guys riding sleds down Main St. in Sturgis.

in sd its legal to ride on the street until it is plowed, unless prohibited by individual city ordinances. i'm thinking i might ride down around by spearfish and just stay out of the actual hills. just a thought.

ride anytime there's snow

Actually, SD has one of the only "open" forests. You can ride anytime there's enough snow. Trails don't open until Dec 15 due to agreements with private land owners. Stay off of private property & away from the hunters & your golden.
Now, the only problem is getting up there with everything closed. Maybe try it tomorrow. 48 inches of snow & 70 mph winds makes for some crazy drifts!

so i can ride off trail to its not like the big horns where u cant ride off trail till the 15th of nov

Short answer.. YES.

go to the riding areas forum under Dakotas & Snow in SD.. there are the rules. the other problem around here is the stumps! Be careful. Of course for the past 8 yrs, that's been a problem even in March. It's so nice to finally be able to ride close to home!! Makes for much cheaper trips that's for sure!
