350 XCW DRIVE CHAIN PROBLEMS

I am building a 350 xcw and timbersled says to run a 12 tooth with 69 chain. When I put it on my chains so slack it hits the track and I cant see it stretching another full link to go to 68 chain.
I rode a 13 tooth for a quick little bit to see if that would work and it does but it seem to really rob the power. For now Im going to switch the chain case sprockets and give that a go. HELP?
