Ride report for Tower Mtn 11/21/10

We rode outta Lake Creek this morning. Near white-out conditions with constant heavy snowfall and gusty winds, extreme gusts at times.
Blowing so hard at times the vis was zero. Had to stop and wait to see where you were going.

Mill Hollow side had at least 15-20" new by noon, and the Tower area to Currant Peak was 2'+ new. High wind loading and scourering. All new is sitting on a degraded 5-8" base. So, base: nada.

SNow content was gropple-like, but light and fluffy. Perfect to be blown around and wind load ridgelines and such. Danger is going to be extreme.

Crap visibility so we hunkered down for a fire and took some short, careful pokes thru the trees and fluff. Other areas we boondocked in copius amounts of cold, dry POW

All in all, Best Day Of The Year....so far:face-icon-small-hap
After this storm cycles and the danger comes down, and this layer sets, its Game On Baby!!!
Finally, we get a good base/start.

We are at mid February 2009 snow depths in the mtns right now....in case you were wondering.

Can anyone explain to me come rain/snow or hellfire UDOT insists on keeping Wolf Creek pass open until the first weekend in December....we had this problem in 2005 when the pass had 7 ft of snow on it over Halloween...they kept it open then and so far are doing the same this year. Must be a pretty important person in the legislator that has cabin property in Tabiona....hmmmm, good to see our tax dollars going to worthy cause:face-icon-small-dis

They seriously keep it open until Dec 1st. What a waste! I guess we need to plan for that only take the 2 place trailers so you can still turn around up there.

As of this morning UDOT says Wolf Creek Pass is closed.

Thanks for the update. That's great news. Looking to head up that way tomorrow and was wondering how the hell we were going to park anywhere that didn't piss off the plow crews. Nobletts should work well now :-)

Sorry if this is old news. I'm not familiar with that area. How do you get to mill hollow form the parking lot at Nobletts?
