Holy crap! Thats insane. I wonder how long the barrells last on those things? Check out some of the other videos on that stuff, anti-everything gun LMAO

Ever since I saw John Wayne with that Gattling gun on the raft man I have always wanted one ....

It looks like the GAU - 8 avenger, which is the main cannon used in the A-10 Warthog. Some interestingl facts about this gun:

1) It is the most poweful cannon in the US Military
2) The structural design of the A-10 is actually built around the gun
3) The cannon and ammo represents 16% of the total aircraft weight.

Also, if I remember right this gun produces enough recoil that the A-10 can on shoot it in 2 second burst every 10 seconds or so, or it risks falling out of the sky (that may be urban legend, but I can't find anything on it). Also, the shorter bursts increase the barrel life.

Not if the A-10 is on a conveyor belt. :face-icon-small-ton

The navy uses a system called a Phalenx (sp?).
It is an anti-aircraft/anti-missil defence system.
The whole purpose of this system is to put so much lead out that the plane/missil actually runs into the bullets.

When it fires you can't tell on round from the next. When it fires it sounds like a cow mooing.

There is an arch of casings coming out of the side of it. It is so freeking cool.
When you look at modern navy ships, if you see this thing with a white dome on top of a gun, that is the system. It is computer controlled and fires automatically.

Raytheon makes it. And it is damned cool. The precision of the thing really amazes me.

We used to overhaul the phalanx. 3000rpm Don't play with the spent sabots. I never actually worked on them, I was busy with other systems, but I got to see them shoot drones. Very cool.

Cool systems.

Clicky Wiki

Mostly being replaced by the rolling airframe missile system RAM. Missile Mafia killed another gun system.
