I have a 7mm STW and JUst bought a 30-378 weatherby. Anyone on here shoot one . Opinions? Looks like real impressive Bilistics

opinion? go trade it in for another 7mm stw...............

want a good caliber? 30 Lapua, 338cheytac, 30booboo, 30dakota. All better than Lazzeroni or weatherby. Weatherby case design is junk IMO.

Not worth the reload or ammo prices. I gots a .338 Cheytac thats pretty much the best thing going right now as far as ballistics and everything. I reload them to about $3.10 a piece using 300gr SMK going 3594fps.

Just my opinion, id go trade it for another STW, 7STW is hard to beat, 6.5 STW is even harder :)

Whatever you decide Joel let us know.

Also, a little fun fact, weatherby's have more recoil than any other rifle on the market because of there case shoulder design, 30-378 is about as fun to shoot as getting towed out by an XP.

Okay gun.

The problem with it is you cant stabalize the 30 cal that well. I was going to pick one up but have decided against it and i am going to buy if i can find one or build a 7-300 weatherby. You cant get a bac as good for the 30 cal as you can on the 7 mag. The ballistics on this gun is phenominal. The 7stw is a great gun to. I have never been a 7 mag fun and i have always shot 30cals but now you can get a 180 grain bullet for a 7mag i am trying it.

LOL Well said bro...

Just butt it up against a tree before you fire it and you'll be fine.:face-icon-small-win

I shoot one that's pretty close Chubby.. A 577/500 Magnum..

Wanna hunt elephants? There's no more of them up here so I need to start looking elsewhere.

Are you kidding. I got one last year and absolutely love it! i had a Custom Winchester 300 WSM featherlight before and my 30 378 doesn't kick as bad as that light little buckin son of a gun. Its more of a push, not a kick, if that makes since. I killed my deer at over 660 yards and dropped it, with my Leaupold Ballistic variable scope and 30 378. It has like more knockdown power at 500 yards than a 30 06 has at the barrel. I love it! I shoot custom loads from Superior Amunition, which are 180 gr. Barnes TSX. And have had the trigger lightned and everything glass bedded. You will love it.

I watched my buddy drop his caribou at 900 yards with is 30-378 Acculy improved shooting 145 Gr. Bergers, i still don't know how he is so accurate with that small of grain. If i shoot those through my 30 378 i would be all over the place. Anyways i had to have one, and bought one soon after

Joel... I just built another 25 STW.. :D.. lots of fun.. on the charts they are crazy fast..
I personally like to stay away from anything weatherby with the exception of the 257 weath.. and really stay away from weatherby actions.. IMO
It really depends on what you are looking for... if its the larger bullet.. go with 338 chey or lapua.. like nate mentioned.. if its speed and a little less bullet weight.. go with 25 or 7 STW..

I have a couple of 7stw's for sale.. :D.. or let me know.. I can build ya anything ya want

Joel.. look at christonsen arms.. the make a carbon fiber wrapped bull barrel.. that is what i'm use'n now for my elk gun in 7stw.. Mine started as a sendero also.. now with a custom stock and scope its at 5.2 pounds.. :D

I would STRONGLY reccemond getting a brake on a christensen if you are going 30-378 class calibers. I built one for myself that came in under 7lbs ready to hunt and it scrambled scopes from every maunfacture except one. I had to rebed the stock after 6-700 rounds as it was shatterd. I loved to hunt that gun but it was so unreliable due to its love for eating scopes that I sold it. it was pretty finicky as for the ammo it liked. it would shoot a couple loads into sub.6 and others into 1.2....nothing shot horrible, but it was far from consistent.

to do it all over again I would go with something like nate mentioned.

The reason Christensen arms rifles are finicky and un-consistant is due to the size of the steel incert. They need a few more thousandth of an inch of steel incert. Have shot ALOT of them and everyone ive talked to says its not consistant. Went through everything, tried hundreds of loads, and like spring hero snow said, would be shooting AWESOME one day, then absolutely change the next. I believe that the thiness of the steel incert is alot to due with it. It reacts too much to hot and cold and barametric pressure, tensile strength of the fiber wrapping.

The only carbon fiber rifle ive ever shot that was straight up impressive day in and day out was Dave Viers of Viersco.

Also, you guys are lucky, I had to opt for the 7mm Ultra Mag because that was the year they quit making the 7mm stw. And the ultra mag isnt holding a candle compaired the the STW. Lucky bastads :( I had to do alot of improving on my Ultra Mag to make it worth a nut.

Also, h2snow, the brass isnt hard to get, I believe its just hard for YOU to get it. Buddy you live out there man LOL, you live in what most on here would call paradise, but very far from the world. I have 1000 pieces of Cheytac brass sitting at my shop ready to be loaded up, i bet that would be hard for you to get ahold of :eek: I dont even want to know. Cheytac rounds are the shizzzz :D:beer;
