3 sleds in a 16x8.5?

I'm looking into enclosed trailers and I don't want to get too big as I'm towing with a 1/2 ton. I found a good deal on a Continental 16 x 8.5 and just wondering if it could fit 3 162's or would I have to go a few feet bigger?

I think you're gonna need a little bigger... The one I just bought is a 19' (actually 18'-8") on the inside of the V and it is just enough... any smaller and I don't think you'd be fitting the longest sleds in there. I suppose if it is a really good local deal you could ask the guy to let you try to fit all 3 in there... I just don't see it happening though.

How are you placing them in there?

I am building a three place trailer that is enclosed and if you take the sleds and put them in there it should work with 17 feet. Just don't put all of them in there facing forward.

Sorry poor attempt at a diagram.....pull tow in forward and then put the last one in backwards.

Sleds are lame because the widest part is the front.....everything else is skinny. So it does not make sense to load them all in forward.

Also, this would allow for reduced tongue weight.

As for the towing, dude you have a half ton, I tow three sleds with a volvo station wagon.

I had a seventeen that was as short as you can do three 162's. I drove them all in front to rear, split the first two and the third drives right in the middle. Sixteen would not have worked.

Ok maybe I'll look for something closer to a 20 foot. I figured 16 was too short. The reason I don't want to go to big is because we usually go long distances into the middle of nowhere over bad roads so I want to keep the load lighter. Most times there will be only 2 sleds in the trailer with the third one there every once in a while

I've got an 18' and wouldn't go any shorter. It works great with 2 sleds, but it is nice to be able to throw a 3rd in for a spare, or if you need them they are all there. I am amazed at the room. I can get my 2 - 144's, 1 - 133, a Sno-Scoot and an XC120 all on the floor in the trailer. I can also get 3 long tracks in if that is all I am hauling but you have to load from the front to make it easiest.
