Just got a call that S and R was notified that 3 people are missing on the Grand Mesa. All I know at this point. I hope for there safe return.

Local news just said SR found a missing rider safe and sound. Not sure if its the same group or not

It was snowing extremely hard at TML today. We were there when the confusion was going on. They were ok like stated by Billy. One would not want to be lost in the storm that is pounding the Mesa right now. It is DUMPING!!!!

All are safe. It was quite the fiasco as no one knew where they got seperated or who was with who. One guy rode back by himself and never told anyone where he was going. Classic left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. Sam is right I would not want to be lost on the Mesa tonight it is snowing like crazy and blowing even more. About 8" on the ground as of now.

Glad they are all safe!! But yes, don't think you are a pu$$ by leaving early if you are beat, just head out and TELL THE REST which way you are going and keep to the mains!! ever seen 127 hours? DONT FORGET TO TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING, AND THE DIRECTION YOU ARE TAKING TO GET THERE!! Yes, I know that was in all caps but it was for a reason, there are lots of things that can go wrong in our amazing sport, lets not try to add to the list because we didn't wanna tell our friends that we were spent... and when your riding TRAILS by yourself-dont do anything stupid, ride safe and slow since you are already tired...
rant over...

WOW, I sound like a mom, except I'm 28 with no kids...
I just want people to think about what they are doing, and I am very glad we did not lose anyone over this lapse of communication...

Glad everyone was found ok! i hope it wasnt anyone that i know. Theres a big group from my local snomobile club staying there now. Lucky bastards any ways to hit it when its snowing.

Glad those guys made it back ok. We all know Mesa is giant vast area with DEEP SNOW.
A must to have with you: all riders have gps's and know how to work them, print as many topo maps as you can, get local maps from the lodges with snow trail #s on them, and of course overnight gear.
We got cought up in that Sunday storm out by Leon Peak and if it was not for our gps's we would have had a real interesting trek back in a complete white out.:face-icon-small-win

On the bad visibility days we make sure everyone in our group has a 2 way radio too, some guys have the helmet mounted units and we just make sure to tune a channel that works with the handhelds too.

We usually ride with them all the time anyway, but make sure everyone has them on those low visibility/snowy days when it is easier to get separated.

Yep TMK50 we started carrying hand held radios years ago and never go without them. First time you have one in your group go over the edge somewhere and can't get back up the powder to tell you where he is you will know why.
