3 broken belts, 3 sleds, in 2 days

Freeride1

I'm wondering if you would be willing to do a test for me on your failed belt.

Boil some water in a large pan and put part of the belt in the water that is boiling for 10 minutes.

Pull it out and tell me if the belt teeth became soft or not???

Test related to this post I put up a while back.

I will do that when I get a minute. Sorry I just got back to this thread. Been busy getting ready to tow 40 hours to Wyoming next week!

If polaris is so hell bent on proper break in they should simulate the 100 miles of break-in in the shop, then ship the belt. They could easily set up a jig with the proper tension and pulleys and break these belts in prior to shipping.

Their is no way in hell I would ride the sled like a grandma for 10 miles let alone 100 freeking miles.

Just isn't going to happen.

And just my to bits. I call BS on the entire deal.

I don't care what you do, if you are swinging 70 lbs of rotating mass (track) at 60mph and slam on the brakes (considering its on the jack shaft not the track shaft) you are going the shear the damn teeth off.

I am not a polaris guy but I really feel for those poor guys that are fighting this problem and the track shaft problem. I hope Polaris steps up and takes care of it.

Can I say it one last time TOTAL BULL CRAP!!!!!

I was nice to my sled for 3 miles!!!!! i did a oops and took my belt off when it was new, and put the top pully on backwards..= no keeper for the belt to stay on. belt came off at .5 miles walked its self off the pullies. never damaged the belt. put back on and did wot burts after that!! Had 9 miles when left for cooke the 10th of Dec. Beat the crap outta it for 100 in cooke city in early dec! my belt looks great. SLED IS AWSOME. my M7 feels like a dinosar after the new pro!!!! Congrats Polaris i'm a happy customer and gonna buy another next year "for the wife":face-icon-small-win

I keep bringing this up like a broken record and it eventually rears it's ugly head . The DRIVERS The DRIVERS ............ is there some reason why this is the only mountain sled without extro-verts ?
Yes they claim that a snug track is more efficient but what happens when it binds ? The travel of the suspension is not true threw out the travel and that silly center driver is cut out in the past by some that know how it likes to climb in the track , tracks have come a long ways at one time that would of broken a track ?
Did he not say that he snugged up his track ? When a belt starts going it does sound like the track ratcheting , but what does it matter which one was ratcheting ? but it would matter if he snugged up the track and than the belt went . How can a chunk of lugs be gone while the rest of the belt looks un stressed ? Never seen a drive or driven belt do that ? Is the belt that strong or brittle ?

I wonder if Burandt hires people to break his in? Kinda like a fluffer. :face-icon-small-win

You know he's doing absolutely 0 break in.

140 miles of proper break-in and put it on some hills today . The top pulley was hot enough to sizzle snow. I cant imagine how hot it would get if you really worked it. I think a big prob. guys are having is they get the top pulley super hot and then they take a break and the belt just absorbs all that heat in that part of the belt. The belt also seemed to get tighter as it got hotter. How hot do the aftermarket pulleys get?

A Snowhawk , just got back from two weeks of riding , got to play with a demo Assault and Indy. Been wanting to play on the Pro and t-motion , hopefully before the season's over . Always on the look out for a sled for the family members . The Assault is starting to show some of the characteristics of a Hawk , now if they would just get rid of the running boards .

the breakin period is just as important to the cut on the pulley teeth to polish as it is to the belt...

all manufacturers suggest reading the ownwers manual before riding..lol..

You know what Burandt does? He takes the belt drive off the sled installs a chaincase and new drive shaft. Then puts the side panel back on. Simple fix for Polaris for the guys they want to brag about their stuff.

You know that for a fact?
I know for a fact Keith Curtis is running the belt drive on his pros with no problems.
