We did a little snow bike testing with the help of a friend up in Canada with a 2012 KX 250 and a 2012 KX 450 (both are 4 strokes). We did a top speed and acceleration test in a field to try and get a true comparison and feel. They had some snow.<O</O
Both bikes had our new SX kit on them and had the same gearing set up. I do not have much experience with the 250’s so this has given us something to go off of.
<O</O250cc top speed 56 mph,<O</O
Accelerated fast through the bottom and mid range and lacked some on the top end. The 250 felt noticeably lighter than the 450 and feels very torque and quick at slower speeds. Felt like the motor had no problem turning the track. This is a very good bike for a kid or smaller rider weighing less than 130lbs. With this size of rider I think it will keep up just fine in the mountains with the 450. We had a kid there (Aston) that was riding them both as well. He was more into the 250. He said he could really toss it around like his bike felt on the dirt more so then the 450.
<O</O450cc top speed 64 mph,<O</O
Would hole shot the 250 by only a small amount (2 bike lengths at most by 4th gear) and pulled evenly all the way to top speed. It definitely feels larger simply due to the extra few pounds it has over the 250. I still recommend this for the average guy.<O</O

I was a skeptic of the 250’s and after doing these tests I am not at all anymore. "These 250 really do rip with the Mountain Horse Snow Bike kits on them."<O</O
