Who has one?

Your thoughts on '06 & older vs '07 & newer.
Worth driving the older style to get the 8.1?

Used to have an Excursion & really miss the fully enclosed vehicle vs a pickup box.

I'm a little concerned about the 6.0 power, but with an inline aluma it will do fine 99% of the time.
I was satisfied with the V10, I can't see the 6.0 being too much weaker?

Any thoughts appreciated.

A friend of mine recently acquired one, but I don't know if he's really used it for anything other than a car yet. I believe he said his 3/4 ton Sub had the 8.1L in it though. Try messaging FrauFarm here on the forums about it. Haven't really talked to him lately

I had an 04' Yukon XL with the 8.1L. If your looking at the older body style I would try and find one with the 8.1 over the 6.0 as they have quite a bit more torque and the mileage is about the same. I went back to truck, but for long trips out west with 4-5 guys it worked really well. IMO the interior in the Pre-07' body style was nicer, but the six speed tranny in the newer ones would be nice as well.

For comparison, a 2500 burb 8.1 with 3.73 and what looked like stock tires pulling a wide 2 place enclosed got 8 something mpg and my 2500 Crew 6.0 2002 with 4.10 and 235/85-16 pulling 2 place open got a hair over 10mpg. Roads included interstate and 2 lane highway and mtn driving.

First time I've run the 235's but with my 265/75 I usually expected around 9 or a little more.

As far as apples/apples, they were coming from western Kansas and us from eastern Nebraska, headed to northern Colorado, and the 8.1 was pulling an enclosed.

Pulled a 7'x27' enclosed with four sleds three times to West Yellowstone from MN. 8.1L, 4.10 gears and 285/75/16 tires. Averaged 70-75 mph all interstate for 900 of the 1000 miles. MPG ranged from 7.5 to 8.5 for the trip overall depending on wind.

If I do this I'm sure I want '07 & newer, so a 6.0 it is.
Pulling an inline I am expecting 6-7 @ 80-85
Really not concerned w/mpg.
I am more concerned that we can still run 85 w/wind.

Got friends with 3/4 ton dsl pickups so I guess I'm just wondering if the extra interior room of a sub is worth it if you have to give up the dsl power to get it?

What size trailer are you towing? Im sure it will do 85 towing a 4 place. It will be reving pretty good and getting crappy mileage but it shouldn't have any problems. I have been thinking about getting the same thing for my next rig. I would love to hear from more people that have done it!

One option would be to find an older Excursion with a power stroke. I went from an 03' Duramax to 2500 Yukon XL and the interior room is nice especially if you have to haul more than 4 people. Depending on the size of trailer you are pulling 80-85 might be a bit much to ask for. The 2500 Sub/Yukons are not as stable as the 2500hd pickups and get a little shaky at higher speeds. On some hills I would drop into 2nd gear just to hold 60 mph.

i dunno what they cost to have built, but if you got the coin to throw around you could always get a duraburb. think one of them would be pretty sweet.

From what i have heard you give them your suburban and 25G and you get a duraburb....

I sure wish GM would put their 4.5L Duramax in a Suburban. Someone should call them and tell them. The Expedition might be nice if it had an Ecoboost but those are thirsty when towing, too. Hurry up GM - what's the holdup?
