246mph at the Texas Mile in a Toyota - street car

246mph - Toyota blocked inline 6cyl stroked to 3.4L. Redines around 9,500 RPM at the mile, more like 10K in the 1/4 mile. Factory stock 6 speed manual, all Toyota body panels, unibody, etc. Idles good, runs on VP Import no meth, no alky. 91mm turbo with a little nitrous.

Last year's 242mph run;

Same care with a few changes also runs a 7 sec 1/4....

I was watching one of those Tuner car show's and a guy was running that engine stock crank and block with twin turbo's the size of your head and making 1500hp
Those Supra's are probably the cheepest supercar you could get into, wouldn't be too hard to have a 400 - 500hp car

I'm not sure but I think there are cars that go over 300 MPH in 1000 feet. What is the mystique with all these rice grinding pieces of **** now days. There is nothing like the sound of good ol American muscle V-8 power.

^ Maybe jet cars, but nothing that's driven by a piston engine in a street car. No Vipers, no vettes, no nothing. Even the gnarliest stroked, twin turbo nitrous Vipers are in the 220-230 range. I don't think many, if any, full-on tube frame race cars have got there. This car has nearly the perfect gearing, aero, and powerband for this event. Some of the stuff that hurts it as a 1/4 mile car actually helps in the mile.

V8's sound great...I've got a couple. Inline six with a turbo that could suck in a baby, running 35psi+++ with an open wastegate sounds perdy cool IMO too. What's the appeal of a turbo Yamaha sled? Cause it's the fastest damn sled you can build....and you can still ride it like a white man if need be.

Have you not heard of NHRA? Top Fuel funny and dragster do over 300 in 1000' every pass. They were running over 330 in the 1/4 until NHRA and the drivers started getting scared and shortened the run last year. And the Pro Stock door slammers do over 200 in the 1/4 mile. 240 in a mile ain't that impressive. And a stock Viper will break 200 top speed. That is STOCK! add all the crap built into that rice grinder and it would make it look sick!

I sure have, I used to attend every year when they had the NHRA and AHRA drags in Spokane, even have ~ dozen passes down that track in built POS Mustang II we cobbled together in highschool. But those are hardly production-based vehicles with factory-blocked engines, so I'm not sure what comparison you're trying to make. That car has also trapped 188+ in the 1/4, which is way closer to Pro stock traps than anything with this much stock equipment should be.

A standing mile is not a top speed contest....just a longer acceleration contest than a 1/4. The fastest (top speed) production car to date is a Bugatti Veyron, at 253mph. That car has 1001 advertised hp, requires over 3 miles to get to ~240mph, and costs well over a million dollars. So ya, the rice burner running 246 in a mile is impressive....actually, it's unheard of.

The fastest 1-mile Viper I know of is SVS's at 231-232, which had the record in 07. It has "all that crap" plus a completely reworked body compared to the Supra's stock body panels.

Gotta love the supras. .10 years old and still look like it could be an 2010 model. If I were to ever make the switch from domestic over to import as more then just a fun daily driver (my wrx doesn't count).. It would be a supra.

They also blow up every pass. And the drivers wern't getting scarred they were getting killed. Thats why they shortened the track (longer shut down area) at least thats what my National Dragster Mag said. You aren't comparing apples to apples here. The Supra can be driven on the street. I supose all of the Bonniville cars are stupid too? I think even Don Garlits would appreciate that Supra.

Yes I know the drivers were getting killed! Tell me that didn't scare the drivers that were alive. I guess I didn't think I needed to spell that one out. Guess I was wrong. And other than the block on that Supra my guess is there isn't very much other stuuf that is stock ie. crank rods pistons valve train induction rearend tranny frame, I'm sure it has a roll cage. Or was all that an option on a Supra from the factory. Please fill me in cause I am not in the know when it comes to rice grinders. They remind me of the little Chihuahua nipping at the Rotts legs untill the Rott gets pissed and eats him.

Why don't you spell it out for us...the charged Supras are the real deal when it comes to speed, both on the track and the street. Not sure where you've been since these things came out but its apparent you haven't seen one of these run yet.

I don't know why you're so PO'd....it's just a car. Of course it's not stock, or anywhere near it....no car with 1250hp to the wheels on a moderate (not high) boost level is. There's not a 7 or 8 second 1/4 mile car out there that's anywhere near stock. The stock parts left in this car would be;

- Stock independant rear suspension
- Stock rear end...although they had talked about modifying to accept a Ford 9" diff, simply for more gear ratio choices, perhaps that has happened by now.
- Stock (unopened) 6 speed manual transmission
- Stock Toyota block & ported Toyota head
- All body panels, glass, bumpers and unibody
- Dash, center console, etc
- Almost all of the engine accessories...starter, alt, etc
For a car of this caliber, that's a LOT of stock equipment. Take a look at that 230mph Viper in the video and see what's left of it....even less, and it's slower in the mile and has never sniffed at a 7 second 1/4. Just look at the pictures....does that black Supra LOOK like a 7 second, 190mph drag car?? Hell no. That's the most impressive part, IMO.

Of course it has a cage and a parachute and whatever other safety equipment....that's all mandated by NHRA and other bodys just to show up to a track or a mile event.

For what it's worth, I own a Corvette, so it's not like I'm not a fan of a big ol American V8. But a boosted to the beejezus "street car" running down 246mph in the mile is damn impressive to me, even leaving out that fact that it was done with a 200c.i. piss pot. I don't think you realize how much of an accomplishment that is.....like I said, you can buy a 1001hp Veyron for $1-2 million and get to 240...in 3 miles. And that was a car designed without budget to be the fastest car on the planet.

Don't waste your time, even the most die hard American car enthusiasts can respect the supra, it's a rear while drive turbo charged 6...you know like the grand nat..and we all know how badass grand nats are.. as long as they care more about performance then brand loyalty.. some people are just fan boys, get bowtie tattoos and couldn't careless about facts, or the merts of impressive technology. This is coming from a guy who has owned 4 Camaros (3 drag cars), a 1500, and blown sbc 29' De-Soto. Either way I used to race a against a couple guys with those that ran 9s, and still were 100% streetable..quite the impressive machine.

Why are you so angry? I just posted what I read in NHRA's own magazine.

Watch Top Gear monday nights on the BBC. It will give anybody an example of how impressive a 240mph in 1mile car is. Best show on TV
