.223 reloading info

I finally decided to set down and start reloading .223, lots of spare brass laying around and I just picked up a new baby, I bought a T/C Super 16" .223 barrel with a 2-6x pistol scope and am looking for some loads.

Being a 16" barrel with a 1-12 twist, I'd like to shoot a quicker powder with a lighter bullet. From what I have heard, the slower twists don't like shooting anything much bigger than 50 grain bullets, and since the gun will be used strictly for shooting varmints, I was looking at something like the Hornady 40 grn V-max BT moly coated or maybe a 36 grn Barnes Varmint Grenade.

I'm looking for an ACCURATE load, the lighter bullet will be humming along fast enough that even at 300 yds it will still kill everything I would want to with it!

I looked into some of my old books, but it's hard to find loading data for a 16" barrel so any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Motley.. I will have to do some checking.. i've never loaded up any for a T/C before.. however I know a few peeps that do.. I will try to dig up some load info

Thanks guys!

Snow JW- I'll try that website out, would be nice to try and find an online source, the good ones seem to be tougher and tougher to find!

Snow knight-Yeah, all the reloading I have ever done for my T/C's was in 44 mag, pretty basic. The .223 out of a shorter barrel is the issue, I know quite a few people shooting them, but none of them reload, I figure that reloading will bring the velocities up and accuracy as well, most .223 factory ammo is for ~24" rifle.

I might have found a load I'd try, something like 22 grains of Reloader 7 behind a 40 grn V-max, something around 2,900 fps out of a 16" barrel, but this is the slower, accurate load.

One way or another, this little pistol should be a ton of fun in the backpack while dirtbiking this summer. Smaller, and very accurate long range pistol, sounds like a perfect combo to me!

Huh, I would have thought that Varget was a little slow for a 16" barrel but they are getting pretty good velocities out of it! Might have to E-mail them and find out when they call it a "Pistol" load, what length of barrel they used for it.

Anyways, that's a great site! Thanks!

This is what I shoot through my rifle. Might not help with your 16" though. I can spank p-dogs out to 300 easy. After that, that little 40grn gets a little wild.

Hornady 40gr V-Max
28gr of Winchester 748
CCI small rifle primers
O.A.L. 2.260"
EDIT: This is a MAX load!!!!!

I have than same T/C and have never shot it.
