2023 Summit X 850 or 2024 Pro RMK 850?

Looking to buy a new sled, coming off a 2018 Pro RMK with a Silber turbo. There is a used 2023 Summit X 850 with 400 miles on it for $13k. There is also a 2024 Pro RMK 850 brand new for $12k, not including taxes and whatever other fees the dealer has. Both 155's.

What would you recommend? I haven't spent a lot of time on Summits but am considering switching after a ton of reliability issues with the engine on Axys RMK. I'm in the PNW and ride a mix of meadows and steeper slopes and trees. Intermediate rider skill. Most of the reviews I see out there are for the Summit Expert and RMK's with 9a or turbo.

Riding style aside, what is the better value?

Engine issues on an aftermarket boosted sled? I never would have imagined...

Regardless I'd say they are both equal, but new has warranty so I'd probably take that. If you want cheap there are 2024 Cats being unloaded at $9500-$10,000 if you look around. Probably gotta pay $500 to get shipped to your door, but if value is the most important I'd do that.

Shocking I know. Learned a valuable lesson not to buy heavily modded sleds used. I'm good at turning wrenches but I'd rather be riding it.

Now that I'm wrapping my head around spending the money I'm considering some of the slash models as well or a new skidoo. Curious what people's thoughts are on the TMotion X on the Summit Edge. Torn between that and the Pro.

Have you rode a Doo? I'd be careful of jumping to that unless you've got some riding time and are comfortable with it. I think most people can get comfortable on either, but there'd definitely be an adjustment going to the Doo, and you might be one of those people who can't stand it. That said, those seem to be the guys who are big into technical riding, so maybe less likely for you. The price on the Doo seems a little high though; I've gotta wonder if there are better deals to be found. I bet you could find a new SP for that price at least; I'm not sure about a new Summit X, but I'd think you'd find a better value than $13k on a two-year-old sled. The Pro is definitely a better value.

Appreciate everyone's advice here. Ended up with a 2024 Pro RMK 850 Slash 155, better shocks and the 7S display for 16k out the door. Decided to stick with RMK since I like how they ride and am used to working on them. Naturally the snow is going to be garbage for the next two weeks...

Where do you ride? I was up at galager today. Absulute epic conditions. 4 feet of soft snow in trees. 2 feet fresh everywhere. 20250220_091838.jpg20250220_091811.jpg

I recommend the 2024 Pro RMK 850 for its better reliability, full warranty, and familiarity with the platform, which can be crucial given your past engine issues. While the 2023 Summit X 850 offers excellent performance in deep snow, the new sled provides peace of mind and less immediate maintenance concerns.

Completely agree the RMK will sidehill much better although the Ski Doo seems to be more reliable and consistent. That offer for the Ski Doo is overpriced. Keep looking, but like the previous post said ride the skidoo first before you put your money down on it. We have both and seem to gravitate towards the skidoo since we’re used to it. It’s never let us down. Summit X handles completely different from the edge. In my opinion, the Summit X is one of the best handling snowmobiles out there for all various different kinds of terrain feels much more predictable.
