2017 800HO Thermostat Upgrades

I'm sure everyone here knows about the differences that the 2018 800HO motors got in regards to cooking upgrades. In comparison the 15-17's run hot. I in particular have a 2017 Assault and find it to be a little too hot for my liking. I'm looking for an upgrade to drop say 10* or so on average. Ive heard of lots of guys getting the newer head and going with the 2018 t stat but that's a pretty high expense. Any other options?

I've read some info on an Arctic Cat Thermostat supposedly working, but
I have not found any specifics such as year/model or a part number. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Ride-cool head from Indy Specialty, comes with 2018 thermostat. [emoji106]

x2^ Contact Indy Specialty and get their Ride-Cool Head for the AXYS 800. They'll include custom domes suited to your riding elevation and fuel. They include the new Polaris thermostat, which I believe opens at 95*. I rode the other day, engine temps stayed around 100* in the deep powder, and on the slow, hard packed goat trail to get into the zone, the highest temps I saw were 135* without scratchers down! With the old thermostat/head, I'd see temps 150* and higher.

Oh, and their billet head just looks damn awesome too!

I was afraid to get answers like this. Last year I only put on 500 miles, so justifying spending $500US plus ~30% for exchange rate to Canada just isn't in the budget. If that were the case I'd rather just buy new scratchers and Leo them down all year long, with scratchers down I've never seen temps above 131*F in any conditions around here. Even the $250 Terra Alps upgrade I thought was out of my budget(if it ever works, can't find many reviews).

Then have your local junkyard be on the lookout for a complete 2018 head with thermostat? eBay? Redlines water wetter?

Luck

I've looked myself, would be nice if they just made a Lower Temp Thermostat... Im on a 16 axys.

I'm on board with you BMX, I figured somebody would produce a 95 Deg. thermostat for my '16. I also want to knock my running temp down 25 Deg. for $30.00 instead of $500 - $600. If anybody knows if this is available somewhere let us know.

I have a 2019 850 Coolant bottle (with integrated thermostat) on order and going to see if I can plumb it in to my 2016 and 2017 Axys RMKs.....I'll keep you posted on my results.

Beware... leaving the scratchers up can lead to an overheated track which will cause premature failure and delamination.

I went with BMP's kit, but I already had their domes. My only ride so far, the sled ran 93-97 just putting down the trail and I run an X3.2 track. I couldn't go very fast as the GF was behind me on '14 800 Pro-RMK for her very first sled ride. Even the '14 didn't go over 129*, but both sleds have the Ice Storm skid scratchers installed and they flat out work.

I'll have to keep my eyes out for possibly a 2018 in a junkyard or 2019 coolant bottle with integrated t stat. I'm amazed nobody has found a similar t stat that just opens up sooner. Scratchers help for sure and even with a colder t stat they would still need to be used but you should still be able to drop the temps a bit. I'm not ready to buy a newer one yet lol.

Maybe operating around 130* isn't as big of a deal as we think but there's got to be a reason Polaris made the changes to the 800HO for only the 1-2 years it was still going to be in production. They knew the 850 was coming....

what did the bottle cost ya and where did you find it? ben thinking the same thing just pitch the old t-stat and plumb in the new set up :)
o think I found it 44 $

Actually it isn't, 140 isn't, not even 150.

This from the 2017 Axys service manual:

120* T-stat STARTS to open

145* T-stat FULL open

113* T-stat start closing temp

am I crazy or I read the timing starting to back off after 128?
Mtntk makes a tunnel cooler for 300.

300 bucks for adding weight? I'd spend that money on an 18 head or aftermarket.

I can't find that specification in my 2017 manual, but what it does say is:

Ignition timing on 600/800 DC-CFI engines is variable and determined by many factors including: engine RPM, engine temp, barometric pressure.
So I don't know how one would know when/how much timing is changed based on engine temp alone (maybe some special screen on digital wrench maybe).

I also found this:
Engine Protection Modes - Axys
Hot lamp ON - lamp illuminates: Idle=201*F/WOT=185*F

Hot Lamp FLASH - Lamp flashes & Engine SHUTS OFF: Idle=215.6*F/WOT=201*F

Yup. There was enough loose snow to keep the track lubricated...i just didn't want to rip a scratcher off crossing over exposed rocks/logs.
