2016 Timbersled ST + TSS - Photos / Impressions

Got to ride a brand new 2016 Timbersled ST with TSS on a 14' RMZ450 this weekend. The new kits are unreal. The TSS combined with the convex track and new suspension reminds me of how nimble and dirt-bike the riding felt when I first hopped on a 2Moto years ago.

TSS - this is the biggest improvement to Timbersled kits bar none. All the front-heavy ski-pushing feel is gone. It rides like a dirt bike. No more fear of taking big drops or jumps. The ride is so much smoother. Combined with the upgraded suspension and bump-stops, the 2016 is VERY smooth on hard snow. I would not even consider another kit that does not have a third shock. It changes everything, especially if you ride aggressively.

The new 2.5" Convex track is the 2nd biggest improvement. Before I was completely in favor of the LT, as the ST left some to be desired in climb capability. The new track climbs better than my 14' LT, and handles much better as well. If I were to get a new kit I would go for the ST, a complete reversal of my opinion before now. The 155" track on my CR500 equipped 14' climbed nearly straight up the steeps, but I found that the added length made it harder to switch back and turn once I put the throttle to it. I felt like I was on a 600 sled, or maybe a missile. At 145lb I felt like I was merely hanging on for the ride on the CR500 XLT. On the same hill the 16 ST I could climb and turn side to side with ease under full throttle, actually making the climbs more relaxed and fun. I have rode a 14 ST without TSS extensively, even last weekend - it would have trenched out and required many complete switchbacks to make the same climb.

The minor updates on the 16 - sprockets, finish, etc... make the kit move past the "home built" look of prior years. If I had the funds I would be ordering a 16 ST today. I will be posting a video this weekend.

Nice report. Want some vid of all the machines you rode.
This is why I put a sx120 on my cr500. Just so I can zip around and maneuver well. Won't have the climbing potential but at least I can have fun zig zagging up hills. Part of me wishes I went with the new st, but will just have to see how the sx does and see if it leaves me wanting. I figure the new sx has gotta be as good in powder as the old 2.0 track st.

Same exact report here.

The 16 ST with TSS is rediculous fun. I love hucking snowbikes but never felt that in control unless the jump and landing was nice, now its like a bike, just go for it and it will all pan out.

I actually enjoyed the trail, felt like shredding a moto track. Never stopped having fun from the minute I fire it up till i put it away at night. Thats pretty damn cool to me!

Headed up to cooke city this weekend and maybe build up some jumps and start to get some serious air miles on the thing.

oh ya!

glad to hear, this is really what i was hoping for, going from a 15 lt last year to a 16 st with tss this year i was getting kinda worried and wondering if i should have got another lt. im sure there will be really deep days i will wish for an lt, but the majority of the time i think the st will be the right tool for the job!

I too will be joining the 16 ST TSS club soon! We need more snow here - and I still need the kit.... soon. very soon. I can't wait.
Thanks for the report. I have high hopes for my CR500 ST TSS setup this winter.

You guys are all in for a treat, I have never been so stoked to rip snowbikes, especially in early season fluff. Normally its my spring go to but with the new setup they plow through deep snow a LOT better then anything in the past.

And im just going to keep posting until I can get back out and rip with mine. I do feel a little bad ignoring my turbo sled though, ok not that bad.

Just had my first ride and damn the TSS sucks up all the woops and control is unreal. The hard pack trail sucks balls but I was actually expecting worse than it was. I'm happy with my purchase. So much fun. I will say first thing I'm going to do is replace my seat cause damn my dumper is sore! And I need some harder front suspension cause I bottomed out a lot. All in all. Amazing

Same experience here on my 16 ST with TSS. I was so impressed this weekend with how well it worked in the steep and deep of revy and how well it hammered down the ruff trails. My first timbersled and not being a avid bike guy I could hammer down the trail to the parking lot in fifth gear wide open leaving my sled buddies in the dust. I would never imagined how much fun this thing is. I will never ride a sled again.

couldn't agree more..

I couldn't agree more with the original posters comments. The TSS is awesome, sucks up the bumps, relieves ski pressure in steep drops and on the trail. The new pivoting suspension combined with the 2.5 convex track is a total game changer, totally takes away the sketchy trail characteristics of the older kits. 5th gear on the trails now.

The 2016 TS kits are a huge step forward for the sport, in one word, EXCELLENT!!

There have been some negative posts with concerns about chain breakage and contact wear. However if one used a twelve tooth gear for the initial chain "break in ride" this is a non issue. Once the chain is stretched out a bit you can switch back to the 13 tooth, then the tensioner redirects the chain on a lower angle which gives the required clearance. As for chain breakage, I have seen one broken chain on a SX kit, none so far on the ST or LT with TSS as yet. Timbersled sourced a new and supposedly better/stronger chain for this season, ..perhaps it has some production or manufacturing issues which I am told is being looked into in depth. The new chain is considerably deeper in the cross section which could be attributing to some of the contact issues over previous years.

If anyone is in riding Revelstoke and experiences any chain issues come see me. I am stocking 520 o-ring and x-ring chains just in case someone needs one.

Overall in my opinion.. the kits, the track and the TSS are awesome. Get out and enjoy it!! Oh.. and by the way, it is puking snow again here in Revy!!!

Ride the Best... Ride Timbersled!!

Ok my first ride was in good powder but zero base, so we didn't dare get off roads. I can't say much on the TSS until I start jumping it or hitting bumps in roads and such. So for me, the biggest thing I noticed was the track.

The track is amazing! It hooks up like no other. I stopped a few times on an uphill slant, 18" powder, no base below for traction, and the bike instantly lurched forward when I let the clutch out. It didn't show the slightest signs of not wanting to move forward at all. Love it!

Here's yesterday's ride, my first ride on the ST/TSS. It's not super exciting but you get the point - we're in 12-24" of powder, zero base.

so the ST + TSS does pretty darn well in the steep and deep from what im gathering??

selling my Pro RMK to switch to snowbikes this week my dealer keeps trying to push the LT kit on me since he has one on hand. ride in iowa 25% of the time rest is Wyoming/Colorado. thanks cant wait for the new ride!

I was so worried that I messed up snowchecking an st. But I put all my worries to bed. When I get my next one for my wife it will be a st as well. Get around everywhere you could want to go. I challenged myself to try get it stuck and could not get it done. Pretty amazing.

So if you guys are saying the ST's with the new track climb better than the old LT's, is a new LT with the new track even better or is it too much track?

Finally found some snow in MI.

Best way to sum up how the the 16 with TSS felt was that it felt like riding my 2moto again on the hardpack. That is a good thing. Felt like my dirtbike though the hardpack whoops. Felt pretty good on the flat trail too.

I was only in about 1.5 feet off trail so really can't speak for powder.
